E Coosb E EWA: The W3y it is m tm m - i i Firefightersto be commended for their hard Culture camp work , By Selenà Boise Management Successor Recent fires are finally con tained aad mop-up has begun, or is nearly over. For over five, weeks the %htning-caustd flies have been burning on the reservation. Spilyay W ith the, strong Speaks winds I have seen lately I find it incred ible that they were able t© con tain them. Although the rains early last week were helpful, it was not am easy task to battle this fire against winds that were as strong as recent winds. I I coaaamend ¡ all thé firefighters who traveled here and worked daily at these fires, also the fire camp crews who did their jobs to support those who were fighting the fires. ; It was their knowledge and experience that helped1, put the fires òut. I am thinking that fighting fire is not an easy job, and that it is dangerous for séme, if'they lack the experiojace to take .care o f themselves out there., - The fire ©n Highway 9,; though, was a sad thing to see for some community* members who live in the Simnasho^area. As they make that daily drive to the' Agency area to work,' it is not the same scenic, beautiful sight .they normally see. i! is now burnt, and as quoted, “like those Smofeey the Bear commercials,” it just makes a person sad to see thjs after years o f driving through color ful scenery. T haven’t driven that route yet, but I did just get used to the burntscenery near HeHe: That was hard for me to get used to, because I thought the ’scenery all around there was very nice, Especially where the Warm Springs' River is located. 'Jjpfeee though that is has been replanted and years from' now we;may see that green scenery around HeHe Butte. That would be'nicer than the burnt trees you se|: there now.
