D uring the weekend, the museum exhibits include “The Day the Columbia River Ran Backward, Mach 10, 1957,” an engaging exhibit remembering the inundation o f Celilo Falls. T he exhibit, curated by scholar and author Mary Schlick, covers the fascinating history of this momentous event, as told through photographs, paintings, prints and written documents. The exhibit and its related program s are sponsored by Mid-Columbia Medical Center, Dorothea M. Lensch Fund of the Oregon Community Foun dation, Bob and Kathy Moco, and Tidewater. O ther new exhibits at the m useum are M aster Glassmakers, Orthodox Icons, NeW Acquisitions, and the re turn o f Theatre de la Mode, which features French fashion^ from 1945. The annual Outdoor Sculp ture Invitational is on display in the museum sculpture garden. It features 17 large-scale works by contemporary Northwest art ists. Subjects range from whim sical and lyrical to thought pro voking abstractions. It is spon sored by Bob and Kathy Moco. The Maryhill Museum of Art is perched on a stunning 6,000 acre site overlooking the scenic Columbia River Gorge. The museum contains a world-class collection o f artw ork th at ranges from early 20th century- E u ro p ean w orks to N ative American objects. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Nov. 15. Admission is usually $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $2 for children ages 6-16. The free admission weekend, June 9-10, marks the fifteenth annual free weekend at Maryhill. T he m useum is located o ff Highway 97, twelve miles south o f Goldendale. Timber sale scoping meetings scheduled % ■■ v .. - ; : Ä 1 i Pillisi 5 1 \ 8 © ' ; - * ; M i i Tribal members ate being asked to provide comments on the proposed 2009 Tim ber Sale and a plan to assess the harvest o f trees killed by mountain pine beetle. Timber Committee, the^ Natural Resources Branch and Branch o f Forestry will host three scoping meetings in Ju n e to discuss these projects. Employee^ from Forestry and Natural Resources will provide information regard- ing the 2009 timber sale and a largescale assessment to harvest beetle-killed trees on reservation forestlands. The first meeting is sched uled for June 18 at Agency Longhouse, the second for June 19 at Simnasho Longhouse and the th ird for Ju n e 20 at Seekseequa Fire Station. Food will be served at 6 p.m. and each meeting begins at 7 p.m. The technical staff will point out general areas where trees might be harvested and how both o f the projects could be implemented. Comments re ceived during the scoping meeting will be used to de velop separate assessments for each project. For those who are unable to attend the meetings, writ ten comments may be sub mitted to the Branch o f For estry. According to Carolyn ! Harvey, “The goal of the program is to encourage the kids to walk every day—plus the ¡teachers.” For each % mile that students walk, they color in a little bee and receive a ¡reward. Harvey said the walking club hosts a fun run for ECE each month'with a jlifforent theme. This is the fourth year for the program.
