E Coosh EEWA: The w3y it is Youth Development team presents 'Silent Message’ Shindig A big thank you to all the ♦ B y Selena Boise M anagement, S uccessor So, hoW many of you saw the premiere of S ilent M essage} I was able to make it to this filming and it made me cry. This was a strong message th at opened eyes* touched people’s hearts, and m ade everyone Spilyay wonder just how Speaks badly sexual abuse affects p eo p le’s lives. People who are directly be ing abused and loved ones who are naïve to the fact that it’s going on. I saw the film as *a w ell thought-out plan to show every one what the affects are, and the examples shown by their por trayers were acted out to look so real. The point of the video was to open the eyes of people that this type of thing really hap pens in our communities, and those being abused need help. Whether it is someone who will listen to their story and under stand the emotional pain they are going through, to an actual reporting of abuse and getting help for their emotional pain. The part that really made me think was when these kids came forward and decided to present this message to their communi ties, and possibly other commu nities surrounding the state or nation. The youth development team felt so strong about sexual abuse that they com m itted themselves . to complete this project for all of us to see and think about. Because it does happen in our community, there were people on the video who shared their story, which was a brave thing to do. Because who would want to wear that label on themselves? “I was sexually abused!’’ It’s something that people w ould w ant to keep within themselves. Afraid to share their pain, their shame, and their story, and I admired them for sharing in this video to help get the mèssage out there. The panel o f students who were part of the question and answer session held strong to their message and why they did this project. Savenia Falquist, who is the youth development team coor dinator, says that the video will be shown at M adras H igh School within the next month. So other students will be able to see this message. And if you haven’t seen it, watch for the D yD to come out in the future. I would definitely àsç it again because it would be worth it. people who made their way to the Simnasho Shindig. We had a great turnout and had a great dinner. We had 13 families bring food for the poduck. We had a great time listening and w atching Mr. Fred H ill from Pendleton. Fred did some good teasing, story telling and then was just goofy during the clown dance. We wanted to thank Warm Springs Composite for the do nation that helped to pay for just over half of the costs of the t- shirts that were given out. Also a big thank you to my big sponsors from the border (you know who you ate!). Thanks to the Meth Task Force for donating towards the dinner and providing the m idnight lunch and goodies. Thanks to Mr. Austin Greene for the use of the PA and wish him well with the gift from the “cowboy.” Thanks to the drums: Stieger Butte from Chiloquin, Eagle Thunder, Rainy Creek, Quartz Creek and WaWokya. Grad party We the parents of the Ma dras High School Class of 2007 are already in the process of planning thé annua! Drug and Alcohol Free Graduinoti Party. This party is ah outgrowth of Oregon’s Project Graduation. Since its introduction, to our community in 1984, a large per centage of Madras High School graduates have benefited. The purpose of this important event is to provide our seniors with a safe, memorable and fun gradu ation celebration that does not include drugs or alcohol. Over the last 20 years our community has been very gen erous in its financial support of parents’ efforts to organize a party that all seniors will want to attend. We are very proud of this ongoing commitment to the graduating class o f M adras High School. It sends a message of support for a high standard of behavior and safety for ev eryone. Each year efforts are made to partially finance the party through various fundraisers, which include a bottle drive, Trail Blazer ticket raffle, and carwash.
