The bouts, USA sanctioned, featured some of the best young boxers from the North west. The event was well attended, with the bleach ers full of fans of the sport. Pi-Ume-Sha Boxing this year helped with funding for the athletes who are planning to compete at the Indigenous Games July 2-9 at Denver, Colo. Goudy boxed in the 105- pound division. In a good match he was defeated by a fighter who goes by the name of Pancho Villa. Wesley Graybael boxed in the 145-pound class. He won a three-round unanimous deci sion. “He used his longer reach and excellent lateral movement,” said coach Austin Smith. Jasper Smith boxed in the 138-pound class against Jevonny Medina. They boxed a good match for two rounds, and then in the third round Smith landed a solid punch and knocked his oppo nent to the mat, ending the match in a victory for Smith. A weekend after the matches at Kla-Mo-Ya in Chiloquin, lo cal and regional boxers com peted at Pi-Ume-Sha Boxing in the Warm Springs Community Center. There were a total of 14 bouts at Pi-Ume-Sha. And this week, boxers are expecting to be Denver, Colo., to compete in the Indigenous Games. Boxers who were planning to attend the games include Oits Johnson (heavyweight), Trevor Tewee (light heavyweight), Johnny Smith (light middle weight), Wesley Graybael (wel ter-weight), Jasper Smith (light weight), Leander Smith (cadet), and Delbert Goudy (cadet).
