I think that is a good, posi tive event, because there are youth who are ex c \ c e llin g in certain Spilyay sp o rts a c tiv itie s, Speaks even right here in V__________ > Warm Springs. I know of some who are try ing out for the basketball event, boxing, running, athletics, golf and maybe a few others that I haven’t heard of yet. I think it would be a neat thing to see a lo t o f N ative American youth competing with other Native American youth at such a gathering. It gives N a tive Am erican people another chance to come together for the youth. I know that people come to gether for powwows or sports events like basketball and soft- ball, but the events represented at Indigenous Games include a variety, such as: rifle shooting, basketball, archery, tae kwon do, boxing, canoeing, swim ming, soccer, badm inton, baseball, volleyball, golf, softball, athlet ics, and wrestling. I know we have talen ted young athletes who do these activities. Participation at this event is expected to reach 10,000 N a tive athletes, 1,200 coaches and staff and 2,000 volunteers with more than 50,000 families and spectators participating in the opening ceremonies. This ceremony will be held at Invesco Field in D enver, C o lorado, w h ere the N F L ’s Broncos play. I didn’t know much about this until I started to hear about it from my kids and their friends. It sounds like an event that they would remember for the rest of their lives. I encouraged them to try out and hopefully partici pate because it would be an ex perience for them. The first Indigenous Games w ere h eld in E dm o n to n , Alberta, Canada in 1990, and since then there have been a total of five. So, this year I am watching for the young athletes from Warm Springs to compete and bring home some good news that they competed and came close and that they competed and had a good time and would never forget it. Contact Susan Guerin at 553- 3091 for more information on the Indigenous Games. The VFW Ladies Auxiliary were able to re-establish the or ganization in late February 2006. In order to save our charter we elected to retain the same offic ers. Tuesday, April 11 at 6 p.m. will be our next pot-luck and elections date at the A gency Longhouse. We also need more involve ment with our fund-raising ef forts. During the Honor Elders Day in May, we need to take more responsibility to donate saleable items and spend some time giving the other ladies a break. I will not be in the run ning for any office this term, elective or appointive. However, I w ill avail m yself w hen my health permits. Thank you. N eda W esley, secretary- treasurer, Elliott Palmer VFW Ladies Auxiliary No. 4217. Ph. 553-1538. Accountability Warm Springs tribal m em bers, we are in need of a uni fied tribe to progress and here are my suggestions to improve Warm Springs. Hold Tribal Council to ac countability and have them ex plain their policies. Have video conferences with other commit tees and tribal councils, and record them for future refer ence. This will save money by not having them traveling and not taking care of their kids and home matters. Have Tribal Council m em bers in only Tribal Council, and not in other departments work ing and complicating pay mat ters. Hourly and wage and fixed salary. Ethics and hiring commit tee who know what the depart ment needs are. One Tribal Council member on Housing Committee. HUD/ NAHASDA will pay/reimburse the tribe for this member to keep T rib al C o u n cil in fo rm ed in Housing matters. I have worked with manage ment and know nepotism is run ning our tribe. Concerned tribal member, Jack Quinn. Para Martin Maldonado Sr: To the one and only, Mi Chulo. I just want to let you know that I love you a lot and want to thank you for everything in life.
