Danzuka Jr., a life long member of the Simnasho District of the Confederated Tribes. I'm 44 years old. I have three beautiful children ages 7, 11 and 12, who live with their mother in Shiprock, JNew Mexico. I have been divorced since November 1998; however, my ex-wife and I have resolved to keep our children's best in terest at heart by providing lib eral visitation and a positive image of each parent from the both of us. I currently live just outside of Madras due to our family's land still going through the fed eral probate process, and for which an informal division has been made is under consider ation by the administrative. Jaw.,-, judge, I plan on building either ., upon land up Tenino or ex changing with one of my rela tives for some land towards the Mutton Mountains. I have the following objec tives in mind for any person serving as one of our tribal lead ers for the Confederated Tribes: The reinstatement of the Tribal Law and Order Commit tee; a review of all tribal laws to determine conflicts or gaps; pri vate business infrastructure de velopment that protects commu nity members; an effective se lection process for our judiciary advisors; consideration of eco nomic advisors from our local pool of talent; closer oversight of tribal housing authority. Now, these are general enough that they each could take on a life of their own; how ever, I believe these are very attainable goals and require the ability to work with all members of the Tribal Council for the good of the whole community. I will not pretend to know every aspect of the tribal gov ernment because I believe that would be very naive, and, imma-,, . i; ture .on ,my part;. howeyarj, J do, , believe that my education, ex perience, training and upbring ing provide a strong foundation of listening and decision-making skills that strong leaders re quire in order to lead people toward the future. v J? Barbara Jim My dear people, My name is Barbara Jim. My Indian name is Sah-Knot. My family is from the Simnasho District, My parents were: Martha Henning McKinley, 4 4 Warm Springs, and Wilfred "Chinky" Johns Sr., Puyallup Yakama. I have been married 30 years to my husband, Bruce Jim Sr. We have five children of our own, and raised many other chil dren (11). Education: High School, graduated in 1964. College, 2.5 years. National Indian Justice: 550 hours. Tribal training skills: All com plete (in-house). Accounts pay able, one session (on job experi ence). Employment experience: 1962-65: Kah-Nee-Ta Re sort, waitress. 1965-68: Kah-Nee-Ta Re sort, waitressfront desk super visor (training program) 1969-71: Kah-Nee-Ta Re sort, front desk assistant super visor. 1971-82: Housewife. 1985-88: On the job training, "women's program" police de partment. 1988-96: Legal aid secretary. 1997: Victims of Crime House manager. 1998: Indian Head Casino cashier. 1999: Finance Department receptionist. 2000-04: Accounts payable senior staff accountant. Objectives: What I would like to bring to my people is my knowledge and myi experiences,1 to assist Wie-'l' people; rev represent the people ; ! to the best of my ability. The chain of command pro cess needs to be addressed. It needs to be applied to resolve issues as soon as possible. When these procedures are followed it will work for the best inter ests of the people. The proper procedures to conduct each business day arc important, to bring to my people the eight course to take when resolving issues, Following the chain of com mand is not what has been hap pening. When a problem arises, it goes directly to the Tribal Council, when there are steps to take prior. All issues can be resolved in a timely manner if the right steps are taken. By following the policy and procedures of the tribal organi zation it will assist the people in resolving their problems. The people need to be educated in this process. Example: Chain of com mand. A) Department head su pervisor; B) Manager; C) COOST. D) Tribal Council, Closing summary: I can bring to the people the leadership skills that I have attained in my edu cation and experience, both pro fessional and personal. I know A 1 that I can represent the people and seriously listen and acknowl edge their concerns to the best of my ability. My knowledge of federal, state, tribal laws, constitution and by-laws, and traditional spiritual beliefs will assist me in giving the people a voice in Council. My personal experience, as a legal spokesperson, mentor and caregiver to children, will be a ; great value as a Councilperson. J I have over 550 hours ofj training in Indian Law through i the Nauonal Indian Justice Cen ter, state offices (Indian Child Welfare) foster care program. I have three years experience in accounting, and my traditional A beliefs that take part in my life.H not only in the home but every; day, in all parts of my life. I want the people to vote for whomever they want, to make sure that what they want is im-, portant. I live by what my mother 1 taught me, to have an open door to my people, and that is how it is today.
