More Letters to the Editor Hurting badly Hello there, whoever you are. I wish you knew how lonely it is in here at times. I never re alized how much I loved my family and friends. It hurts so bad at times, you don't know what to think. The only time it really feels good in here is when you know you made it through another day without getting hurt or killed, and you're one day closer to free dom. The people you meet in here are so full of it, they smile at you and say they care, but in reality they could care less about how you feel. Some guys in here claim to be your brothers but still stab you in the back. What kind .of brother lies to your face, and talks behind your back? Birthday wishes... Happy birthday, Ashley Marie. Grandma, Grandpa and Laneda. Happy birthday, Ashley. From Uncle Tony. I Happy birthday Delby, June lS, from Tigers and Mom. J Happy birthday to Tonie Marie Boise, from Jane, Pearl, Julia and Suzette. Fisheries: tribes ask for (Continued from page 1) Spending on sportfishing in Washington totaled nearly $854 million in 2001. In Idaho, recreational salmon fishing generated about $90 mil lion for the state's economy, and much of the money was spent in struggling towns like Riggins, Orofino, Lewiston and Kooskia, according to Idaho Rivers United, a nonprofit conserva tion group based in Boise. "The aggressive non-breach strategy had no substance and the judge was clear," said Allen Slickpoojr., CRITFC chairman and a member of the Nez Perce Tribe. "Both the federal govern ment and the tribes found that policy was a sham with the lag ging BPA funding. This strategy has to be backed up with funds and political support." I will be so happy to leave this place and never return be cause I hate it in here. No one cares about you when you come in here. You're just put away and forgotten so you can pay for your wrongdoing to the commu nity or to someone you love. You write letters asking for forgiveness from friends, fam ily, lovers and anyone else that will hear your cry, but even the one that you love and care for so much will in time turn away from you. They say that you lose every thing when you come in here. Whoever said that is right. I lost a lot of loved ones since I've been in here. It hurts to know that you can't do a thing about what goes on out there. All I know is that Tm'doing the best I can with what I got. Congratulations The Chemawa Indian School recently held graduation ceremonies, and these three tribal members received their diplomas. They are Neda Sampson, Deidra Johnson and Aletha Govenor (clockwise starting at right). Congratulatoins on a job well done. Patt was one of several tribal representatives in Washington, D.C. recently to testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs on Bonneville's failure to properly manage its fish and wildlife budget, consult with tribes over funding, and honor treaty obligations. In February, the Warm Springs, Umatilla, Yakama and Nez Perce tribes joined 50 other members of the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATNI) in calling for a financial and management audit of the federal wholesale energy mar keter. In a resolution, ATNI also condemned Bonneville's pro posal to significantly reduce its annual fish and wildlife expen ditures, and its disregard of rec ommendations for hydropowcr operations set out in the National Help needed for July Fourth The Warm Springs Recre ation Department will sponsor and host the 2003 Indpendence Day Community Celebration on Friday, July 4. This huge com munity event requires hours of planning and discussion. The Recreation Department and the rest of the community need to start planning now. Some of the events that the Recreation Department has so far been planning include the community parade, barbeque, and community events and games before the evening fire works display. The fireworks display is be ing coordinated by Warm Springs Social Services. The Recreation Department would like to call on individuals for their input on this year's events during Warm Springs' In dependence Day celebration. Contact Carol Allison at the Recreation Department, 553 3243, for more information. Just knowing that somebody cared for me out there would be nice. There are people who care out there but it never seems like enough to make a guy feel better in here. My life stopped out there and at times I wish it would stop all at once, so I wouldn't have to look at what my future holds for me. So if there is somebody out there who cares or somebody that hears this cry, please let anybody or somebody know that there is somebody hurting bad. I write this to somebody be cause I need somebody, like a lot of people do, in this world. I say this to somebody, I need a friend who cares, a friend to love and care for me, to write things I need to hear. If you're BPA audit In February, the Warm Springs, Umatilla, Yakama and Ne Perce tribes joined SO other regional tribes in calling for a financial and management audit of the BPA. Marine Fisheries Service's 2000 Biological Opinion. A U.S. district judge invali dated the biological opinion in a ruling last month. A similar resolution passed later that month by the National Congress of American Indians, as well as complaints aired at a CRITFC-sponsored tribal fish eries co-management sympo sium in January, helped prompt the Senate Indian Affairs Com mittee hearing. s f I I j RedSkye: Marketing in Indian Country Dave McMechanSpilyay Aurolyn Stwyer-Watlamat was in Warm Springs recently, after visiting wtih Cort Directions in Bend. out there and need somebody, this somebody is here.
