The Honor Senior Day went real well, there were two intoxicated in dividuals who had to be removed from the area but no other problems. The bus unloading and loading went very smooth, with people going right into the registration tents. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed them selves. We have been giving out infor mation on crime prevention, securing homes with locks, window security and effective lighting for yards. There has also been a lot of seat safety promotion done, remember to use your seat belts, and make sure your passengers do to. The seat belt might seem like a pain to put with, but just think of the pain it can prevent. Community Policing spent time with the 2nd Graders at HeHe this week on their annual Natural Re source Day outing. There were over three hundred students at this gath ering. On May 20, 2000, 1 was able to spend all day on the Deschutes River. A total of fifteen persons were contacted be tween Dry Creek and the Wasco Jefferson County Line. All of these persons were non-Tribal members but they all had the proper permits. As mentioned also in the last Spilyay the Warm Springs River and it's Tributaries have been closed as per the Sherars Bridge Resolution, 9858. Some Tribal members have been contacted in response to the resolution that were found to be fishing on the river, primarily for trout. The time spent with those members was informing them on the resolution and issuing one time ver bal warnings, due to alot of people still not knowing about the resolution. Officer Larry "Bubba" Holliday along with Natural Resources En forcement Officer, Lester Poitra, re cently patrolled the Metolius Arm of Lake Billy Chinook. This effort resulted in several contacts, with two persons being cited to appear in Tribal court for not hav ing a fishing permit. Some fishing equipment relating to the violation was seized and the case is pending disposition in Tribal court. More river and lake patrols are being scheduled as well as satura tions of the wooded areas. We are hoping to have a high success rate with our combined efforts with the Department of Natural Resources. Recently I assisted the Detectives from our department in a drug search warrant that was served. My part in the detail was that the detectives had found a dead calf and some fish in the back of a vehicle. The results led to one Tribal member being cited for two counts of livestock si aughter and one Hispanic individual being cited for theft of the livestock. The calf was found to have been shot in the Whiskey DickScookum Creek area. One rifle was seized and the fish was released to the Tribal Members fam ily, due to the fish being found to have been caught legally by Tribal A (V : Y - Victoria Smith sang beautifully. In Simnasho I have been taking alot of motor vehicle accident re ports in the Schoolie Flat area, on Highway 3 between milepost 15 and Simnasho. The accidents primarily consist of vehicles versus livestock. In some research that I had re cently worked on, I had found that most of the accidents on the Reserva tion that relate to vehicles versus livestock occur on Schoolie Flat. Motorists are urged to keep to the speed limit which is 50 MPH, wear your seatbelts. and keep an eye out . for anything moving on the side of the road. The Schoolie Flat area is open range however I have been dis cussing with Ronnie Suppah, one of the Simnasho Grazing District ride bosses, about improving the fence line throughout the area. As a reminder, if you have any information for violations that have occurred or that is on going relating to Fish and Game or the Simnasho Community, there are some numbers that you can call. The Department of Natural Resources has a hunting and fishing information line, which is 553-2000. The Agency has a hot line number, which is 553-2202. My di rect line into the Simnasho office is 553-2263. It has an answering ma chine, if I or one of the Fish and Game officer's are not present. You need not give your name if you wish. Until the next Spilyay be safe and hope to see you at the grand opening! ! Sgt. Gregory A. Stinson, SimnashoFish and Game Enforce ment McGruff Speaks: Hello, Congratulations to the Boys & Girls Club for it's opening of doors to the little people. Because of the location, we ask that you traveling motorists watch out for kids in the area of the Community Center. I have noticed that for the most part, most drivers have been very courteous when children are waiting at a crosswalk. Thanks for stopping. Thanks for buckling up and stay safe.
