'''"iiiiin.iii 1 1 , i iii i.i i,ii.l.,iiniiii mi !! iiii.mivj"1.' M Went for a cruise onto the for- IT 0 est one day and passed through areas where I once worked dur ing the days of the Loggers. As I was driving along I met a logging truck and as it went by I noticed it belonged to Johnny Guerin Log ging Co. The name took my thoughts back several years when I worked with Johnny and his father in the woods. Yep! I can still remember the crew, a father his son and a "Ka Shum Guy." In them days log gers used to get kinda Ka-Chum, especially on Saturday nights af ter a long week in the woods. Some guys would even say, "It's Friday, let's take it easy so we can really Chos-Wi-sha, tonight." My thoughts went back to the days of the logging camp known as "Camp" A". And one time in the Olden days it was known as "Old Mill." Today when you pass by the Old Mill Camp, or Camp "A", it's like a ghost town, a few broken down cabins where once flourished a big logging camp and full of life. Yep! The trees used to be pretty huge in them days and the crews were large. Big cats hauling loads of logs that would almost equal a half a days Skidding today. The loads were so big that every now and than the roll-up cat would have to get behind the load of logs and push them along to the landing. It really used to be noisy with the big cats a roaring away going down the skid trails with saplings snapping and popping as they made their way up the hill for another load of logs. The big iron hooks clanging away behind the skidder, power saws buzzing all around, logging trucks backing under the loader and men yelling at one another. Yep! Today when you drive out into the woods, stop get out of the car, it's all quiet. A person can look up those steep hill sides and see the remains of those old skid trails and the old landing sites where there used to be wall of logs decked on each side of the road. Today when you go into the woods you see a little deck here and there and they have a name I think starts with a "P", anyway you see a few piles here and there. Today the Knot Bumpers, Choker Setters, who were the Raw Boned Loggers have made their way into the pages of the History books and are a thing of the past, and its pathetic to see all the large trees also fading away in them "THAR HILLS." Jefferson County Fair in Madras It was Jefferson County Fair time on July 26-29, 1995, with a Rodeo,, Carnival, Parade and plenty of entertainment that took the spot light this past weekend. At the fair on display were many projects shown by the young and old as all kinds of arts and crafts along with livestock were on hand in the exhibit buildings. The big 4-HFFA animal sale on Saturday evening as the youngsters displayed their livestock they raised during the summer. There were some prime beef, sheep and Swine that went on sale at the auction. To see some of those steers on sale one could just imagine those juicy stakes cooked to ones delight. Yep ! There was something for everyone and things to do at the fair. One admission gave people to attend what ever was of interest to them. Some took in the exhibits and entertainment on stage while others went to the rodeo and the carnival rides. But no matter what anyone done there was plenty to do. One of the highlights was the aroma of all the food being prepared from all different races. The Italian, German, Spanish, and the smell of hamburgers, hot dogs and fresh popped popcorn filled the air. On Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. there was the big street parade in down town Madras where many floats went through along with various vehicle and the people on horse back. Cowboys and Indians, well there were just a few Indians in the parade. The Jefferson County Fair is the second county fair in this area. Last week the Crook County Fair was held in Prineville. The kick-off of all the county fairs in the state of Oregon. Next week-end the Deschutes County will have their fair at the fair grounds in Redmond. The Wasco County fair will fallow. Fairs will be happening every weed-end from now until the State Fair which will be held in Salem, Oregon. Toe Ness There was this husband who was so romantic he died for love. Attending the parade, the picnic, the afternoon relays, games, races & al ways the fireworks. This year the custom was resumed. So I returned with my now adult daughter & she brought her young children. A generation later and it proved to still to be the same. Nothing had changed.. .same friendly folks, fine food, fun filled activities, glorious fireworks. How hard the committee worked. What a great coordinator and MC Wilson was. Thank you for a chance to relive precious memories. We all antici pate July 4th in 96 in Warm Springs. Gay Campbell Lantz Happy birthday to my sister Vera Thomas on Agust 9. It's good to know that we're not forgotten way down here in Ari zona Paul J. Smith Scottsdale, Arizona was just asking God for your Christmas list. No, prayer is very deep and powerful. Ask anyone with a spiritual walk and they will tell you the main tool of their success in living life in prayer. Prayer is neat because a few words is great prayer or a full hour is great prayer. The key is in the first line. "Conscious opening of the self to God." You cannot talk to God by just slipping notes under the door. You have to open the door and let the Lord inside for a good talk. That is the tough part about praying; We try to make it one-sided. Then we wonder Happy Belated 1st Birth day Melana Edwards I'm glad you're walking now & hope all is well with Daddy Marvin & Mommy Michele. I love & miss you all. Love grandma Bobbi James why things are not going as well as we thought they should be. The Creator requires a two-way connection. Just like you talking to a good friend, it is at its best when you are near that good friend, close enough to see their eyes, and to know they are listening to you. Prayer, let God in. . .
