Members of the volunteer Warm Springs Dam Anglers braved inclement weather to catch Squaw Fish from atop Bonneville Dam. The anglers caught over 20 fish and donated the $1 per fish bounty to me Warm Springs Senior Citizens Program. All money is for donation to a char ity; tne Warm springs hshers will donate their earnings to the Warm Springs Senior Center. What is a NSF? They are giants of the minnow family. They live up to fifteen years and they can get up to about two feet in length. NSF are native to the Northwest; they are over populated. Tons are thriving in the slower pools created by the Dams for over thirty years. Every year, during the smolts' out-migration, millions of feeding NSF position themselves at the mouths of rivers such as the Deschutes and Klickitat on the Columbia River. They also gather around the hydro electric dams. June and July is NSF spawn ing season. This same period of time, they go on a feeding binge. One day, a NSF was cleaned out and checked, it was found to have eaten 27 salmon smolts. The volunteer work being done to enhance the salmon runs is much appreciated. The volunteer group was put together by top angler SeeGray, from Browning, Montana. Other anglers are from Warm Springs and include Tony Kirk, Elton Greeley, Roberta Kirk, Jake "Buf falo" Eastman and Philamina and Linda from Grand Ronde, Geri Eastman's family from South Da kota, Rose Kirk, Sam Fast Buffalo Horse and Freddie Holliday.
