There is noth ing good of anyone. On a visit to the Orcgonian News paper building in Portland, one day we asked about if they ever put any thing good about people in the news. Their answer was that something like that wasn't any news. I guess if you want to make the news now days you have to go down town and get killed. Rape, there is always stories of women bcinff raDcd and abducted, Ha rassment, I guess the only good thing is being robbed, that's if you are not shot. It's even unsafe to go out on the streets for fear of being beaten up by some tough guys. They say it isn't racial involvement, that's full of bologna!!! Anytime any group gets turned down because of their race they all yell, "prejudice," and go around trying to find someone to take it out on. Like that feller in Portland who was standing with his girl friend minding his own business waiting for a ride, than here comes these Black Boys and beat him up. All because they were turned away from a school dance at Benson High school. And the Cops said it wasn't racially motivated. What do they think when something like this happens? When ever I'm down town and sec a bunch of Black Boys coming I'm not sticking around to see if they arc not racially mad at someone. "No Sirrrrceee!!"Man, I'm gonna be out of there as fast as I can. Faster than you can say the declaration of independence... YEP! ! I'm not sticking around. ,. There arc all kinds of murders today, girls killing other girls, boys., killing other boys, where do they get all these ideas? Maybe from the , shoot-um-up Rambo movies or all those gang shows they have on TV. The way they glorify these kind of movies could be where all these ideas come from. "Never Know, Huh!" If we don't watch out things will be happening around here in our little towns. Like these drive by shootings, or is it happening all ready. Like they say over in Madras, We never pick on the Minorities, but as soon as a carload of Native Americans leave the city those white cars all know they are heading out of town. Or if it is a Hispanic car they are all over them, pulling them over for no reason at all, perhaps because they are a minority group. Why wouldn't any group get mad at the cops and start a gang. Like they say there's gangs forming in Madras. Just because some Hispanics can't speak English and can't communicate with the general public so they stick to themselves and they say they are forming a gang. I'll always say that prejudice is present all the time and it will never be overlooked no matter what anyone says. There arc those who say, I'm not prejudice, but just as soon as the backs are turned they are stabbing them in the back. It's the truth!! YEP! Things are really in a mess now day's. I know I'm not going to say, "I'm not Prejudice," because I can't. Ivc been exposed to it too many times to know it is always present, no matter what anyone say's...It's the truth. AAAH-NAH-CHI-TOON! ! ! TOE NESS A businessmen sat down with his friend and said, "I know you're upset with your divorce,." There's a lot of fish in the sea. "I know, his friend said, but my ex-wife took all my bait." YIKES SS SS SS There was this gorgeous blond sitting at the bar, and a guy struck up a conversation with her. After a while he asked her if she could like him. She said, "I'm sorry but my heart belongs to someone else." The guy starts to walk away, but she grabs him and said, "But the rest of mcisnot."YIKES SS SS What goes, "tap-tap-tap-BOOM!" A blind man in a mine field. YIKES SS SS SS SS A Black ballplayer was signed by a major league franchise and was assigned to a farm team in Mississippi. As he pulls into town he approached some white guys and said, "Hey, where do all the Black dudes hang out in this town?" One White guy looked at him and pointed, "See that big branch on the tree over yonder." YIKES SS SS SS Hear about the Pollock Olympic Athlete who wrapped himself in barbed wire? He wanted to try out for fencing. YIKES Local vandalism costing thousands To the editor, I would like to Like this time to express my anger, sadness, and grief, that I have experienced during the construction of our new home that has been in the process for almost a year, uunng mat time people have broken out windows, parried in the home, threw hard boiled eggs all over the inside of the house during Easier lime, and the latest incident was on September 21, 1993, some one had gone into the home and used black spray paint on the living room y " JO-""---. walls which caused a lot of damage. Why would anyone be so cruel? This is costing us thousands of dol lars to have this home built. We were so happy that our new home was almost done and we could move in within a couple of weeks, and now this has lo be delayed due to vandal ism. These people arc trespassing on private land. What can be done to stop this from happening? I'm sure this is happening to other new homes that arc being built. We all love you very much Mom, Dad, na-na Tonya, & ya-ya George Spare heaters demand special caution To the editor, Now that we arc getting into the low temperatures of winter, families throughout the community arc using all types of methods to keep the con trol of the chill. Since the fuel crisis of the 1970s, fireplaces, wood stoves i and space heaters have become popular alternatives to central heat ing. On the plus side, these alternate heating sources are less expensive to buy, and easier to install and run than central heating systems. On the mi nus side, they cause fires which cost hundreds of millions of dollars in property loss each year. According to officials across the nation, most of these fires are caused by human error, not mechanical fail ure. Here are some suggestions for those who use space heaters and wood stoves: Use only safety listed equipment. Look for the UL label on oil and electrical heaters a UL or AG A label on gas appliances. Never use fuel-burning ap pliances without proper vents to the outside. B urrung t ucls (kcrosone, coal or propane, for example) produce deadly fumes. Always use the proper fuel for your particular type of heater. When refueling an oil unit, avoid overfilling it. And never fill your heater while it is burning. If you use an electric heater, be sure your house wiring is ad equate. Maintain adequate clear ance in all directions around heaters and stoves away from walls and Apology extended To the editor, I am writing this letter to apolo gize for driving under the influence on August 19, 1993. I endangered other people who share the road, this was a stupid and uncalled tor on my part. Please accept my apology. Thank you. Marvin L. Prevention Officer Bob Sjolund offers these tips for making sure your fireplace is safe this winter: Never use flammable liq uids to start or quicken fire. Never burn charcoal in your fireplace; it gives off lethal amounts of carbon monoxide. Use a metal screen in front of your fireplace to keep burning embers inside. Keep the size of your fire manageable. It is possible to ignite soot in the chimney by overbuilding the fire. Keep flammable materials off your mantle and well away from the fireplace. By remembering and practicing the use of these tips, we can all be come involved in preventing unnec essary fires that create damage to the lives and property of the community. We have given out 2 1 care packages to our higher education students who earn a 3.00 grade point average or higher with 12 credit hours or more the end of each term (19 packages during the 1992-93 school year, plus 2forsummcr93 term). So if yourson or daughter, or grandsondaughter, niece or nephew, etc., has worked hard to earn a 2.00 or a 3.00 gpa tell them they did a good job, give them a hug, let them know you care. Along with the work has come slower traffic and clogged streets. Motorists can expect another four or so months of roadwork on the campus.
