Buff girls take double-header; It was a cold windy Saturday April 27th when the Madras White Buffalo girls took both ends of a double header from the LaSalle Falcons to up their Tri-Valley league standings to 7-5. Two home runs in the first game sparked the Buffaloes to win in the first game one by Jennifer Runge and one by Beth Peterson. Also during the game there were four girls who got two hitsapicceduring the game. Hits by Juanita Kalama, Kris King, Jennifer Runge and Riverside boys defeat Buffs When the Madras White Buffa loes traveled to Riverside High School at Boardman for a double header, it was perhaps a trip they shouldn't have taken. They were shut-out in both games. The first game score was 5-0. Second game showed a 10-0 score which sent the Buffaloes record to 1-5 in Greater Oregon League play. Winning pitcher in the first game was Byrd of Riverside and the los ing pitcher was Sauceda for Mad ras. Winner for the second game was Pratt, Riverside. Losing pitcher was Broker of Madras. Beth Peterson. The whole team had a pretty good day with some fantastic plays on defense as Laura Sahme had two double plays for the day. One on a line drive and throwing out the runner on first base, the second was getting a grounder up the third base line tagging the runner and throwing out the runner at first. Susan Skavalan was the winning pitcher in both games. Kris King banged out a home run in the second game to keep the rally lo in g as the Buffs piled up the runston the LaSalle team, which the game was called after six innings due to the 10 run rule. In the first game the score was 7-9 and in the second game 6-18, giving the Buffs the sweep for the week-end. The Buff girls traveled to Glad stone for a make-up game which was rained out earlier two times. The results are not available at press time for that game. Aerobic classes offered Aerobic classes are still being offered. Monday and Wednesday 6:00-7:00 pm at Warm Springs Elementary, low impact aerobics. I nstructor is Dorthea Barney. Tues day and Thursday 5:30-6:30 pm at the Warm Springs Community Center, stair step aerobics with hand weights. Instructor is Lu anda Green. There are just a few more weeks left for the classes to go on. During the summer season the classes usually shut down due to the lack of interest. So you had better come on down and get your exercise now. MHS seeks football coach Madras White Buffaloes J V third baseman Claude Smith III makes a defensive stand during game against ML View High School Cougars April 30. There will be a new look to the Madras High School athletic pro gram for 1991-92. School officials are announcing a Head Football Coaching vacancy for next season. A search is planned to cover the Pacific Northwest and the Western region of the United States. Inter views will be held in early May for the vacancy. White Buffalo football is the school's largest sports program with 104 boys turning out for the team in the fall of 1990. The pro jected enrollment at the school is approximately 725 for 1991. Madras is the second largest school in the Greater Oregon League and has won or shared the league football championship five times in the last ten years. The early bird classes that were scheduled for Wednesday and Fri days have been called off due to lack of interest. Diabetic chair exercise is still going, starting at 8:00 a.m. each Monday, Wednes day and Friday. Run scheduled Warm Springs Reservation Runners presents the 1st Annual Tywama 9K Run, May 18, 1991 Tygh Valley, Oregon. To be held in conjunction with the Tygh Valley All-Indian Rodeo. The 9K and 2 Mile Fun Run will begin at 9 a.m. from the Wasco County Fairgrounds. Registration is $10 with T-shirt and $5 without T-shirt. . i t . . League teams named Annual Tywama Rodeo set for May 18-19 All-Indian Rodeo, sanctioned by the Western States Indian Rodeo Association, is scheduled for May I8and I9,l99l,and will beheld on the Tygh Valley rodeo grounds. Events include bareback, saddle bronc, bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, cow milk ing and girls barrel race. The entry fee for each event is $45.00, with added money of $500 per event. morning at 8:00 a.m. The WSIRA card is $50.00, permits $20.00. They can be pur chased at the rodeo office at check in time, only if the contestant has sent in his her entry fee and charges in advance. The contestant can include the fee when mailing in the entry. It's "Play Ball," around here as the little league fields are buzzing with eager players practicing every evening for the upcoming season. The popping sounds of bats and gloves echo across the fields with yells of coaches and the players. There is T-Ball, Minor and Major leagues and the Babe Ruth teams forming who face a busy schedule. The girls are out for softball. So everywhere you look there is teams practicing for their first game. League play will start the first week in May. The follow ing is rosters of the Minor and Major League teams here which consists of the Chiefs with coach Dondi Hoptowit, the Braves with coach Sam Kentura, and the Warriors with coach Don Wini shut. The Major league teams are the Little Bucks, with coach Lyle Rhoan, Sr. and assistant coach Wendall Jim.
