U ntil then hé.will be work ingw ith $20,000 thoroughbreds owned by R oland Ferguson. Introduced to Ferguson by D eisott.Suppah, Jo h n has been galloping horses for him since the beginning of the summer. He also,cleans stalls and is b ash cally-becom ing fam iliar with horses. T h ro u g h o u t the upcom ing school year Jo h n will be staying with the Fergusons in Vancouver, W ashington, going to school and w orking horses at a nearby training stable. A W ith added expérience by his sixteenth! birthday next June, Jo h n will be testing fo r his jo ck ey’s license. A ccording to Jo h n the test consists of riding out of the gates in front of the ste wards, switching leads and switch ing the w hip from hand to hand. He m ust m aintain a weight of, less than 120 pounds. “The ligh ter you are, the b etter,” he adds. and placed second in the W arm Springs E ndurance race in 1984 before his victory in the 1985 race.
