P hysical and sexual abuse and neglect affect a child’s wel fare and can have long-lasting effects on the child b o th psy chologically arid physically. Because W arm Springs, like the rest o f the nation, does show a child abuse an d neglect p ro b lem, the Y outh Service Program iti 1983 form ed an abuse team . T eam leader and youth services counselor M ildred K irk explains the abuse team . “W e’re riot here to take kids from families. O ur ultim ate goal is to have children Stay in the hom e.
