The Commission has been directed by President Ronald Reagan to advise him of action steps needed to initiate stronger and more viable economies on Indian R eservations. The Commission must also be able to advise the President of what le g is la tiv e , p o lic y o r procedural obstacles currently inhibit the growth of business enterprise on Indian lands. The u ltim a te g o a ls o f th e President’s Indian policy is to develop a sound private sector on Indian Reservations, lessen tribal dependence on federal funds and programs and to reduce the Federal presence on Reservations in Indian Affairs.
