April 26,1983 Pag«?3 SPILYAY TYMOO Dance groups scheduled The Kah-Nee-Ta Sunday entertainment calendar has been finalized for the upcoming tourist season. Entertainment began on March 20 and will continue until September 18, 1983. The entertainment is held each Sunday at the Village. The regular dance groups will receive $30 for the dancers and $45 for the drummers. The check is made payable to the leader of the group. The leader will be responsible for the distribution of the payment to the participants. The entertainment offered by Kah-Nee-Ta will be the regular Sunday Indian dance groups, special Indian dance groups for private salmon bakes and the public salmon bakes. Kah-Nee-Ta requests that if the dance groups cannot meet their obligations, they must find a replacement and give advance notice to Andy Lucas or Rose Charley. Only those drummers and dancers scheduled to perform and are authorized by the leader of the scheduled group w ill be p a id f o r th e perfo rm an ce. T his is to discourage persons from going out to Kah-Nee-Ta on the spur- of-the-moment to dance and eliminate conflict. Som e o f the police cars reached 100 thousand before being replaced. Natural Resources department received three o f the new vehicles, forestry, tw o vehicles and the police department,nine. The Vehicle P ool maintains all tribal vehicles. Miss Indian Northwest pageant May 14 Miss Indian Northwest 1982, T r u d e e C le m e n ts w ill relinquish her title on May 14 at the Miss Indian NW pageant when a new young woman will [be selected to wear the crown for 1983. Judging for the pageant will be at Lincoln Hall Auditorium. Applications for the Miss Indian Northwest 1983 pageant are being taken at this time. Young women between the ages of 16-25 years and who have at least % degree Indian blood from any American Indian tribe can enter the pageant. Contestants will be required to wear traditional tribal Indian costume which depicts her tribe. A black and white photo of the contestant in her trib al costum e must accompany her application and be received by the committe by May 7, 1983. The Miss Indian Northwest; Pageant will be held on Saturday May 14 in conjunc tion with the United Indian Students of Higher Education Powwow at Portland State U n iv e rsity in P o r tla n d , Oregon. Contestants will be judged individually on 1.) knowledge of her Indian hertiage, 1-15 points; 2.) speaking ability, an improptu speech with the subject selected by the judges, 1-20 points; 3 .)trad itio n al ta le n t, 1-20 p o in ts; 4.) personality, 1-20 points; and 5.) Indian dancing, 1-15 points. Benefits still available There will be a photo-taking session for the insurance benefits program on April 27 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the employee lounge. This will be fo r those em ployees and spouses who are currently in the program who missed the scheduled o rien tatio n and photo-taking sessions and for those eligible employees who are not currently taking the insurance but would like to. Remember, that session will be held April 27 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the employee lounge in the administration building. No photos will be taken during the moon hour. A g o o d sign that spring has arrived is people out doing yardw ork— fo r the Warm Springs Tribal Construction it is time to get out and start projects that have had to wait fo r g o o d weather. The construction department has been erecting tribal signs in fro n t o f ail tribal offices. The signs are made o f concerte with the tribal logo o f three tepees and the offices' names are depicted with raised letters.
