PAGE 2 WARM SPRINGS. OREGON OCTOBER », MM local Boy on TV If you’re planning to watch the Seattle-Atlanta NFL game on TV Sunday, November 7, don’t leave your set at half time. A local boy, Jason Smith, will be competing in the tele vised Punt, Pass, and Kick contest that afternoon. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stan ley “Buck” Smith. Jason (age 9) and his bro ther Troy (11) both took first place in their group at the local Punt, Pass, and Kick contest in Madras which was sponsored by Miller Ford. The boys each won a trophy and a jacket. From there, the two went, to the zone champion ships at The Dalles where they again each won first in their group and a trophy. October 2nd, Jason and| Troy competed in the District championships at the King- dome in Seattle and Jason came away with a first. Com petitors at the District com petition included youngsters from Alaska, Washington, Ida ho and Oregon. Each of the boys who won on the District level were awarded a football uniform of the pro team of their choice for the November 7 Area com petition. Jason’s favorite team is the Dallas Cowboys, so he was measured and a uniform has been specially made up for him. Jason, in his Dallas Cow boy uniform, will go on to the Area championships in Seattle at the Seattle vs. Atlanta game in the Kingdome on Nov. 7. The televised competition will feature one event before the game and two events during halftime. If Jason wins first place in his age group at Seattle, he and the other winners will compete in the Divisional com petition on Saturday, Decem ber 11, at Houston during the Pittsburg-Houston game. The winners will then go from there to the national finals of PP&K during the Super Bowl game. Now in its 16th year, the Ford sponsored PP&K pro gram was started with the purpose of “encouraging worthwhile activity, to help build character among young- sters, and to stimulate interest foot- in athletics, especially ball.” Spilyay Tymoo wishes TROY SMITH, (left), and his brother Jason Jason the best of luck. proudly display the trophies they brought home in the Punt, Pass and Kick contest. Photo by Sandy Rangila Mt and Ceramiet Sah lions Club chartered Veterans1 Day Parade set The local VFW Post is sponsoring a parade in obser vance of Veterans’ Day No vember 11. Anyone can enter the parade which will begin at 10:00 a.m. near the school. The paraders will march around the campus and stop at the administration building for a ceremony honoring those who lost their lives in war or other service to their country. A free lunch will be pro vided for the public at the Community Center following the parade and ceremony. The Warm Springs Lions Club has been officially char tered. Richard Macy was elec ted President of the new or ganization which is dedicated to serving the communityl through numerous projects, of ten health-related. Uren Leonard is the First Vice President, Hamilton Gree ley is the Secretary and Fran cis Atkinson is the Treasurer. The other offices have not yet been filled. The coming weeks will be devoted to organizing and de veloping the new chapter and its activities. The Lions Club is known for its work with health agencies, especially in the area of eye problems among child ren. President Richard Macy says it’s “a lot of fun, too.” The next meeting of the Lions Club will be on Novem ber 9 at 7:30 in the morning. Coffee and donuts will be served at this before-work meeting. Anyone interested in learn ing more about the club is welcome to attend. The Second Annual AH- Indian Arts and Ceramics Show will be held November 19 and 20, 1976 at the Toppenish Armory. All Northwest Indians are welcome to the show. There will be no entry fee and the Show is free to the public. Halloween carnival Saturday Good times are in store for ghosts, goblins, witches — and everyone who attends the Community halloween Carnival this coming Saturday. The children will Trick or Treat Saturday during the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Carnival is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. and end at 10:00 p.m. The movie, “Island At The Top of The World,” will begin at 10:00 p.m. and run Phone 553-1644 until about 11:30 p.m. Plans are taking shape for STAFF the Carnival. Oregon 9776> gest: Division I is for Junior (COVOTE NEWS) KO. Box 735 High and younger; Division II for Senior High and adults. Cakes must follow a Halloween theme and be in a container that does NOT have to be returned. Prizes for the Cake Decorating Contest in each di vision will be: First Place, $10.00; Second Place, $5.00, and Third Place, $3.00. All cakes must be at the Community Center no later than noon on Saturday. There will also be a Pumpkin decorating contest. Pumpkins can be decorated in any manner (they do not have to be carved), but they must be decorated by the person who enters the pumpkin. Divi sions will be the same as for the Cake Decorating: Division I, Junior High School age and under and Division II, Senior High and older. Prizes in each division will be: First Place, $10.00; Second Place/ $5.00 and Third Place, $3.00. Owners can pick up their pumpkins after the Carnival. Pumpkins must be brought to Conference Room I at the Community Center no later than noon on Saturday. Costume Judging: Costume judging will take place be tween the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the First and Se cond Place winners in each of the following categories: Spookiest, Funniest, Prettiest and Most Original. Age divi sions are: T’re-school Division (4 and under); Kindergarten Division; First Grade Division; Second Grade Division; Third Grade Division; Fourth Grade Division; Fifth Grade Division; Sixth Grade Division and Junior High School and older Division.
