local Boy on TV
If you’re planning to watch
the Seattle-Atlanta NFL game
on TV Sunday, November 7,
don’t leave your set at half
time. A local boy, Jason Smith,
will be competing in the tele
vised Punt, Pass, and Kick
contest that afternoon. He is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stan
ley “Buck” Smith.
Jason (age 9) and his bro
ther Troy (11) both took first
place in their group at the
local Punt, Pass, and Kick
contest in Madras which was
sponsored by Miller Ford. The
boys each won a trophy and a
jacket. From there, the two
went, to the zone champion
ships at The Dalles where they
again each won first in their
group and a trophy.
October 2nd, Jason and|
Troy competed in the District
championships at the King-
dome in Seattle and Jason
came away with a first. Com
petitors at the District com
petition included youngsters
from Alaska, Washington, Ida
ho and Oregon.
Each of the boys who won
on the District level were
awarded a football uniform of
the pro team of their choice
for the November 7 Area com
petition. Jason’s favorite team
is the Dallas Cowboys, so he
was measured and a uniform
has been specially made up for
him.
Jason, in his Dallas Cow
boy uniform, will go on to the
Area championships in Seattle
at the Seattle vs. Atlanta game
in the Kingdome on Nov. 7.
The televised competition will
feature one event before the
game and two events during
halftime.
If Jason wins first place in
his age group at Seattle, he
and the other winners will
compete in the Divisional com
petition on Saturday, Decem
ber 11, at Houston during the
Pittsburg-Houston game. The
winners will then go from
there to the national finals of
PP&K during the Super Bowl
game.
Now in its 16th year, the
Ford sponsored PP&K pro
gram was started with the
purpose of
“encouraging
worthwhile activity, to help
build character among young-
sters, and to stimulate interest
foot-
in athletics, especially
ball.”
Spilyay Tymoo wishes TROY SMITH, (left), and his brother Jason
Jason the best of luck.
proudly display the trophies they brought home
in the Punt, Pass and Kick contest. Jason took
1st at the District competition in Seattle and will
go on to the Area championship contest.
