Angel Garden club members planned details at their meet ing last week (or their annual Primrose Flower Show. This year's chow is scheduled for Sunday, April 23, and will be in the school dining room. Miss Juliana Dehler is general show chairman. It was agreed that each member of the club wil have some active part in the show. Discussion revealed that weather has not been too favorable for primroses this year but thus far the plants are in much better con dition than last year. Most mem bers reported some aeaulis, poly anthus and Jullae in bloom, sup plemented with the loss common dentieulata. The club voted to purchase a daylight lamp to malje sure that the colors will be classified correct ly. Heretofore it was a usual hap pening that blossoms placed and classified as to color by ordinary electric lights the night before the chow were found to be a different color the next morning when day light flooded the showroom, and entries had to be reclassified. Cash prizes will again be award ed to garden clubs; ribbon prizes, as always, will be given first, sec- I ond and third winners in the varl jous divisions, and there will be the usual special prizes. I A light luncheon will be served before the judging starts to the judges, clerks and staff In the school dining room where the show is always given. Mrs. Don Chapman has been ap pointed general chairman of plant sale which will be In the room adjoining the showroom Plants arc donated by club mem bers and their sale provides the funds to finance the show. President Mrs. 0. J. Williams named the following chairmen to take core of exhibits in neighbor ing shows: Mrs. Victor Hoffer, Salem Spring Show; Mrs. Paul Slilfc, State Fair; Mrs. Roy Pal mer, North Marion Fair; Mrs, Wilbcrt Aman and Mrs. Joseph C. Wagner, l.abish Green Show. Mrs. Leonard Fisher was named to take charge of decorations for the' St. ! Mary's parish dinner on March 31. I The Portland Garden Tour was tentatively set for May 22 or 23. The next meeting will be Thurs day, April 11, instead of Wcdnes day, April 10, because Claud Mills, ' the guest speaker, cannot attend on I Wednesday. Amity Rainbows Mark Founding AMITY (Special) Amity assem bly. Order of Rainbow for Girls, met recently in the Masonic tem ple with Miss Glenda Patty, wor thy adviser, presiding. She was assisted by Glen Patty, father ad viser, and associate mother ad viser, Mrs. Edith Law, assuming duties of Mrs. Ruth Cochran, mother adviser, in her absence. Plans were made to circulate a doll to be used as a symbol of the baby assembly. About the doll's neck will be placed a medallion bearing name and date of each new assembly as it is instituted, to be used throughout the state (or recognition in the grand as sembly. Dr. and Mrs. Charles Law donated the doll (or this purpose. An invitation was extended to Amity assembly to attend a recep tion at Sherwood assembly on March 17. Transportation will be provided. Amity chapter will at tend morning worship at the Am ity Methodist church on April 7, in commemoration of the founding of the Order of Rainbow for Girls. It was also announced that the first merit awards will be made in May under the direction of as sociate mother adviser, Mrs. Edith Law. The recently formed Amity Rainbow Girls choir will make its first appearance on March 27 nt the Masonic temple for the Order of Eastern Star installation of officers. Follis Wins Speech Contest STAYTON (Special) - Mrs. Wayne Follis was judged winner of the area speech contest last week when Stayton Toastmistrcss Club members were hostesses at the Masonic Hall. She will re present the Stayton club at the council compctilion at Albany, March 30. Her talk on modern teenagers was titled "The Big Question." Other speakers were Mrs. V. G. Lowerv of Mill City talking about "Jewels," and Mrs. Evelyn Dawning of Lebanon, who called her speeech, "Reaping Divi dends." Judges were Mrs. Frances Eck hart, Albany Toastmistress Club; Mrs. Evangeline Fleetwood, form er member of Mill City Toast mistress Club; and Miss Hattie Bratzel, Marion county district attorney. Tie-breaker judge was Mrs. Kee Groves of Lebanon. Mrs. Claude Phillips, ' Slayton club president, presided al the luncheon meeting served by mem bers of the Star Club. Names Good Citizen Girls STAYTON (Special) Honor was given two high school girls of this area recently when they were chosen as "Good Citizens of the Year" in their schools by the faculties of their schools. The girls were given the honor by Chcmek- cta Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Miss Louann Schlies, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Schlies, from Slayton Union High School, and Miss Marjorie Papke from Cascade Union High School, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Papke, Rt. 5, Salem, were the ones hon ored. They were chosen on the basis of dependability, leadership, service and patriotism. Pins and certificates of award were presented the girls when they attended a tea held in the Salem Woman's Club House. Mrs. Schlies and Mrs. Papke accompanied their daughters. Miss Schlies has been active in school affairs. She is national vice president of the western region of Future Business Leaders of America and secretary of the state organization, and a member of the Stayton High School Nation al Honorary Society. President of her school's Na tional Honorary Society, and treas urer of her class. Miss Papke is active in school clubs. She is a member of her church choir and youth grow. Upon graduation she plans to attend Concordia College in Portland to prepare herself to teach in elementary schools. P.E.O. Sisterhood Elects Mrs. McNary WOODBURN (Special) Mrs. C. K. McNary wns elected presi dent of Chapter J, P.E.O. Sister hood, last week at a meeting at the home of Mrs. Harry VanArs dale. She succeeds Mrs. Dnvid Cavctt. Other officers elected were Mrs. VanArsdale, vice presi dent; Mrs. Lloyd Froom, record ing secretary; Mrs. James Lamb, corresponding secretary; Mrs. W. S. Scarborough, Sr., re-elected treasurer for her eighth year; Mrs. Gerald Smith, chaplain; and Mrs. David Cnvelt, guard. The officers were installed by Mrs. Cavctt, the retiring president. Delegates elected to attend the annual spring convention were the president and vice president, Mrs. McNary and Mrs. VanArsdale. Mrs. Carl Magnuson gave "Five Minutes with the Record" on the topic "Sympathetic Understand ing," and Mrs. James Lamb read the 121st Psalm. The next meeting of the group will be March 28 al the home of Mrs. Jess Fikun. JEFFERSON (Speciall Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hart, who re cently returned from an extended trip throughout the cast and south, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Saturday. SII.VERTON (Special) A group of long-time friends spent the day in Scotts Mills Thursday at the home of Mrs. Margaret Fry where they enjoyed n potluck dinner and social afternoon. City Beauty Topic DAYTON (Special) TJie Dayton Civic club met last week with Mrs. J. L. Shawver for a dessert. The topic of the evening was "City Beoutification," and members dis cussed what improvement could be made to help the city look more attractive. The club also decided to sponsor again the Red Cross drive, with Mrs. Harold Frink as chairman. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Frink on April 1 with the county federation officers as guests. AMITY (Special) The Coun tryside club met recently at the home of Mrs. Richard McKcc. Plans for the annual Easter lily sale and participation in the cancer drive are being completed. Golden Wedding Couple Honored SILVERTON (Special) Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jones were hon ored at a mock wedding ceremony marking their 50th wedding anni versary at the meeting of Tryphe na Rcbekah Lodge No. 33 last week. The lodge also conducted a business meeting and observed St. Patrick's day. In the mock ceremony. Jack Morton served as minister, and Mrs. Chancey Beasley and Mrs. Elba Bentley sang. Mrs. Robert Rcnsvick was bridesmaid and at tendants were Mrs. Karl Haberly, Mrs. Mike Hannan, Mrs. Miles To bias and Mrs. Glen Foster. Robert Renwick was best man. Presenta tion of gifts to the couple was made by Mrs. Chester R. Mulkey, noble grand, on behalf of the club. Visitors from Woodburn, Canby and Needy were welcomed by Mrs. Mulkey and Mrs. Frank Gir oux presented the "Thought for the Day." - Mrs. LaVon Roomer was accept ed as a member by transfer. In honor of the golden wedding celebration, flowers in golden hues were used and the wedding cake, baked by Mrs. Forrest Zetterburg, was decorated in gold. Invitations were accepted for friendship night at Oak Rebekah Lodge of Molalla, March 26, and for a reception in Salem for state officers of the Ladies Auxiliary to Patriarchs Militant, March 28. Triple Links club will meet with Electa Chapter Names New Heads DAYTON (Special) At the meeting of Electa chapter. Order of Eastern Star, last week Mrs. Ivan Hedgecock and Mr. Hedge cock were elected to serve as worthy matron and worthy patron. The Rainbow institution will be Sunday, March 31, at the Dayton Grade school.
