Barton, chairman of the House Tax Committee, said the society's budget request .should stay in Ways and Menus until the slate knows how much money it wilt need for operations in the next two years. "If we do happen to wind up with sVime surplus funds," Harlot! said, "then I'll go along with the non-essential services." Duncan, a member ot the Ways and Means Committee, said he was "surprised and shocked" hy the society's request, which is more than double its current hi ennium appropriation. Duncan said lie opposed the ap propriation, in Ways and Means because "it seems a poor lime to be expanding services ot this type." Rep. W. II. Ilolslrom (D).
