Reynolds, daughter of early pioneers in Benton county, died in a North Sacramento hos pital Monday morning. She had lived several years in Albany. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Jost's chapel, with burial in the IOOF cemetery. Born at Alsea September 5, 1885, her naronts were Benlamin and Sarah Brattain. She was married to John Bennett in June, 1902. Following his death, she was mar ried to Glen M. Reynolds in 1921, and lived in Albany. Atlor his death, she moved to California, nnd lived at Coloma In recent years. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Youngberg of Lebanon and Mrs. Howard Hansen of Oak land, Calif.; two sons, L. D. Ben nett of Diamond Springs, Calif., and W. J. Bennett ot Oakland; two brothers, Edward Brattain of Coloma and Clinton Nye of Mon mouth: three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. 18 From Salem Given Awards The work of 200 regional scholas tic art award winners, including 18 from Salem, will go on exhibi tion Friday for four days at Lip man's. The winners were announced Tuesday in Portland with awards going to young artists in junior and senior high schools throughout the state. After the Salem exhibit the works will be In Portland Feb. 27-March 9 and then go to Pitts burgh for national judging, Salem winners include: Junior Group David Rodgers and Marsha Mul ler. Mrs.Hixon,96, Dies at Home Caroline Hixson, 98, Salem resi dent most of her life, died- at her home at 176 North 25th St., Tues day. She had been In failing health the past three months. Born at Hudson, Wis., March 18, 1860, Mrs. Hixson, with her mother and two older brothers came to Oregon around Cape Horn in 1862, coming directly to Salem where she had relatives, including her grandparents. In 1878 in Sa lem she was married to Leonard B. Hixson, who died in 1924. In an article appearing in the newspaper when Mrs. Hixson cele brated her, 95th birthday, it was noted she recalled-when Sleepy Hollow! an area beyond Fry's Hill, was something of a swamp and also recalled the crash 01 the Wil lamette bridge in February 1890. Mrs. Hixson was a member of the American War Mothers. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Laura E, Cleveland, Dallas; three sons, Leonard B. Hixson and Ches ter M. Hixson, both Salem, and Roy L. Hixson, Eugene; four grandchildren; eight great grand children and three great grand children. Announcement of funeral serv ices will be made later by the Clough-Barnck chapel. Rites Held for Mrs. Blakeslay MOUNT ANGEL (Special) Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Loretta Blakeslay, 56, who died Saturday, February 16, at the Ben edictine Sisters Nursing Home, Mount Angel, were held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the Holy Family Catholic church In Portland. Interment will be Wed nesday at 10 a.m. at the Waila Walla Catholic cemetery. Mrs. Blakeslay was born September 16, 1900, at Rock Rapids, Iowa. Survivors include the widower, Theodore, of Portland; and a sis ter, Mrs. John Beechinor of Walla Walla. Wash. CORE Leader To Visit City LcRoy Carter, field , organizer for the Congress of Racial Equal ity (CORE), will be In Salem Thursday to meet with Salem civic groups and will speak to Willam ette university faculty members and students. Carter, who also is visiting in Portland while in Oregon will dis cuss the philosophy and techniques of Congress of Racial Equality, the present state of civil rights and the possibility of state-wide CORE activities in Oregon. The Salem visit is being arranged by Dr. John A, Rademaker. The visitor has recently visited with the leaders of the bus boy cotts in Tallahassee, Fla., and Montgomery, Ala. AMITY (Special) Funeral serv ices for George Andrew McCul- loch, 82, who died bob. 16 at the Faith House convalescent home in Amity, were held Wednesday in Pcrshall's Sheridan Funeral Home in Sheridan. 1 Mr. McCulloch was born Oct. 26, 1874, in Ballston. On Dec, 27, 1006, he met and married Daisy Potter in Sheridan. He attended school in Ballston and business college in Portland. For many years Mr. McCulloch served as president and later a director of the First National Bnnk in Sheridan. In 1926 he helped found the Amlty-Gnston Nut Grow ers association and served as manager for several years, retir ing due to ill health In 1950, Dur ing his lifetime he served for many years as clerk of the Ballston school board. George McCulloch was an auth ority and maintained a large herd of prize Guernsey cattle at his farm on Roule 1, Amity. He was initialed Into the Amity lodge No. 20 AF & AM in Willi and served as worshipful master in 1901. He also was active in the Amity Order of Eastern Star, and Al Kader Temple of the shrine. He was a member of the Wood men of the World. Mr. McCulloch is survived by his widow, iJaisy of Amity; daugh ter, Thclma McCulloch of Port land; nnd sisters, Mrs. Mattic Van Gross of Amity, and Mrs. It, A. Leisy of Seattle, Wash. Interment was in the Masonic cemetery in Sheridan. Shelley Rites Set Thursday DALLAS Funeral services will be held at the Bollman Chapel in Dallas Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Mrs. Mary Ellen Shel ley, 79, Falls City resident for the past 18 years, who died at her home Saturday. Rev. M. M. Mohr will officiate at the service and interment is to be in the Dallas cemetery. Mrs. Shelley, who had been ill for two years, was born in Green wood county, Kan., May 16, 1877. She was married April 12, 1894 at Stnyton to William A. Shelley, who survives her. Surviving besides the husband are two sons, Cecil Shelley, Falls City, and Earl W.
