Special music is in charge of Four Corners Church Class : FOUR CORNERS An ex panded educaion program for young people is being initiated Sunday during the 11 o'clock worship hour at Trinity Metho dist church in Four Corners. Children attending kindergarten and primary classes will be of fered an additional ' hour for Christian education. Parents who attend the service at this hour are invited to bring their chil dren to these classes. A new feature of the regular church school program during the general assembly period pre ceding the classes is the use of a large turn-over chart entitled, , "Spiritual Life for Methodist Christians" on which Methodist history, beliefs and practices are illustrated. - The most important aspect ofT188.10" fields of Japan. Sunday, following the 11 o'clock service, members of these two youth groups will attend a hamburger fry- following which they will visit in the Four Cor ners area inviting people to at tend the church of their choice. A similar project was carried out by the college age group two weeks ago.; Salem Heights Baptist Plant Progressing The Salem Heights Baptist church, 3530 Liberty Road, has made progress in their new Sun day School unit this past month. Under the supervision of Ted Lind, the basement and first floor sections are progressing as planned and are on schedule. Volunteer help in the evenings and Saturdays has speeded up the work and the church hopes to be in the building by April 1, Easter Sunday. The daylight basement will house the pastor's study, nursery room, kitchen, social room and nine class rooms. The ground floor will be used for a tempo rary worship place and five class rooms. Building committee chair man is Ferd Zurcher. Helping him on the committee , are Kay Houser, Wayne Collins, Harold Childers, Charles Davidson an.d Rev. Elmer Hiebert Architect is Frank Struble. The church has been conduct ing all their services in the Com munity Hall, Liberty Road and Madrona Avenue, the past five years and is anticipating using the new Sunday School unit in the near future. Church Seats New Officers SILVERTON At the Sunday worship hour of the First Chris tian church a special ceremonial period was observed when the recently elected officers of the church were installed. The Rev. I. M. Nelson was ceremonial di-' rector. Members of the church board Inducted include Ira Loron as chairman; Miss Marguerette Hal lock, secretary; R. A. Fish as trustee; Miss Ina Harold, finan cial secretary; Frank M. Powell as Bible school superintendent. Dedicated as elders were Ira Loron, Walter "Ferguson. Wednesday, junior and senior choirs, 7 and 8 p.m. Friday, Married Couples' Club, 8 p.m. Expansion for Church Planned Fifty eight men and women who were elected at the annual meet ing of the Court Street Christian church to serve as officers, will join in a service of dedication and consecration at 10:50 a.m. Sunday Bible Studies CourseOffered The people of Salem and vi cinity are invited to take advan tage of the opportunity to im prove their knowledge of the Bible by registering for the new' term of Bible studies and in structions to be given at the in terdenominational Capital Bible Training School. The new term begins. on Monday evening with registrations at 6:45 o'clock and classes from 7:15 to 9:15, at First Baptist church, Liberty and Mar ion. Eight courses of studies are being offered by the school'this next semester of 15 consecutive Monday nights and each regis trant may take two of the courses offered. A study of the provision God has made for man's need of salvation will be taught by Rev. John R. Turnbull. Dr. Lloyd T. Anderson, president of the school, will give an exposition of the Books of first and second Peter. Rev. Alex. H. Sauerwein, Dean of the school, who hat re cently moved to Tacoma, will be returning each week to teach two courses, one in the study of Gen esis and the other a brief survey of each of the New Testament books. The. Life of Christ as present ed in the Gospel of Matthew will be taught by Rev. Elmer Fast, and Rev. Robert Goertz will give an exposition of .the Acts of the Apostles. Miss Ruth Backus, Portland missionary worker, comes to Salem each Monday to teach a class in the methods of approaching ; and winning our Jewish friends to Christ. Fruitland UB Church Plans Special Meets A series of special meetings with Rev.- Ralph C. Wynkoop as the speaker, will be held in the Fruit- land Evangelical U.B. church, Jan. 22-Feb. 5, inclusive. Services will be held each Sunday at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. and at 7:30 each week night except Monday. Rev. Wynkoop is a minister in the .church of the Nazarene who has engaged in evangelistic work during the past eight years. 'Mother Ruth, superior, Community of the Holy Spirit of New York City, will 'be. at Saint Paul's Episcopal church, Salem, at 10 a.m. Friday, Jail. 28 for a "quiet day for women" program. The local visit' is one of a series being made through out the diocese of Oregon. The Community of the Holy Spirit, a religious order for women interested . in teaching and administering parish and di ocesan day schools, was founded by Mother Ruth in August, 1952, at he 'cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York. Again at 6:30 the Individual age groups will meet for their study on "A World in Turmoil".' i Another, inspiration at 7:30 will be the presence of Roger Weaver, who was a delegate to the Inter national DSF in Athens, Ohio, dur ing the Christmas vacation. He will speak concerning the meeting of over 3,000 youth from all over the United States, including repre sentatives from 80 different nations who are students in school in the United States. Roger is in school at the University of Oregon and has been a member of the church and the youth groups here for many years. Roger will also speak to the College Age group at 6:30. - , : '' . The downtown Klwanls club will devote its program Tuesday to the Y and the evening of Jan. 31. North Salem Hi-Y clubs and their dads will assemble at the Y for a no host dinner. The YMCA will pro-, vide the program for the Salem Rotary club Feb. 1 and that same evening members of the South Salem Hi-Y clubs and their dads will have dinner at the Y. A similar affair for Parrish and Les lie junior Hi-Y clubs and fathers is scheduled Cor Feb. 3. The Y Mothers club is cooperating. Rod Hulet, pastor of the , Free Methodist Church in Albany, will bring the Youth Revival which has been In progress it the local Free Methodist Church during the past week to a close with service Saturday and Sunday nights.
