Plana were made and discussed for the summer months. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Glen Julian with a picnic in August At the dose of the meeting, Mrs. Inez Ring wss presented with a cake honoring her 78th birthday anniversary. She also received a shower of cards. Present were Mesdames Al bert Julian, James Hollings hesd. Clyde Bressler, Donald McWhlrk, Floyd Baasett, Os car Naue, Mrs. Inez Ring and the hostess, Mrs. Huffman. Mrs. Herman Free was host ess for the altar society of the St. Patrick Catholic church held at her home Monday eve ning. Plans were discussed for the bazaar and dinner to be held some time in August. After which Bunko furnished the en tertainment for the evening. Present were Mesdames Jim Phelps, Merrill Brassfield, La vern Spitz, Mike Schwindt, Sam Bridges, Andrew Sieg, Pat Lyons, Bob Free and Mrs. Anna Letchlitner. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Olm- stead and sons, Donald, Walter and Jimmie were hosts Sun day for a family gathering at their home. Mr. and Mrs. Will la Lorenz and children from Enid. Okla., have arrived In Lyons. They are at the home of her mother, Mrs. Henry Sklels until they get located. They plan to re main In Oregon. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Hoy are Mr. and Mrs. E. Sivigny and chil dren from Robblnsdsle, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cru son, Michael and Nlkki. spent several days st the coast re turning Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. John McClurg spent last week at Oceanside ! on the coast returning home Sunday. Visiting at the C. W. Bllllng ton home for the past month were Mr. and Mrs. J S Dug gsn of Lubback, Texas Congratulations are going to Mr. and Mrs. Waltet (Bud) Walker upon the birth of a son bom Saturday, Jul 11 at the Santiam Memorial hospital. He has been named Guy M. and weighed 8 lb. 4 oz. Miss Zeta Prlchard of Mill City Is spending her vacation at the home of her brother and family. Mr. and Mrs. William Prlchard. He is stationed at Shepherd field air base in Texas where he Is In the per sonnel omce. Miss Marie Morrison arrived last Sunday 'from Chicago for a three .weeks vacation at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Morrison. Miss Morrison is employed in the of fice of the Slavic Gospel assoc iation In Chicago. Mrs. Arvid Osirom and sons. Toddy and Billy, arrived home by plane Thursday from An chorage, Alaska, where they have spent seven weeks at the home of Mrs. Ostrom's parents. While there they experienced the recent ash storm from the volcanos. Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Strike have been spending the month of July at St Helens at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth Asburry, and have been assisting in harvesting the strawberry crop while Mr. As burry has been in a hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Kilian Smith left last Sunday by plane for Chicago where they will at tend "International Harvester Parade of Progress.' Smith, a local International Harvester dealer, won the expense-paid trip through sales of machinery at his store. ' They are expected home this week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Doer fler, Peggy and Sheila, have returned from a car trip Into the Canadian Rockies. They spent a week at Victoria, B. C, then visited Banff and Lake Louise and into the Jasper and Banff national parks. They visited with relatives at Wen atchee, Wash., on the return trip. Mrs. Clara Stange is spend ing three weeks with her sis ter, Mrs. B. E. Palmer, at John Day. A3c James Ballweber, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Ball' weber of Woodburn, route 2, is home on a 30-day furlough from Lockbourne air force base at Columbus, Ohio. S. R. Kallak is in the Salem General hospital, where he un derwent an operation for eye trouble Monday. Johnny Newman, who is in the air force and stationed at the Fairchild base in Spokane, Wash., has been visiting at the Lester Henn home for the past two weeks and also with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Coville, in Salem. L. B. Detweiler of Woodburn underwent surgery at Salem Memorial hospital Monday. He expects to be able to return home this week-end. Tuesday noon 14 members of the Past Noble Grand club met at the home of Miss Laura and Miss Flora Thomason Ma rion Rd. A picnic lunch was enjoyed at the noon hour. The president Mrs. M. E. Falls City Amity Detroit Detroit The re-election of Lee Hopson to the office of lo cal school board director by vote of 113 over 73 for his op ponent, Alfred Kokenour, con firmed a similar decision in the previous election, June IS. Mr. Hopson asked for the revote be cause of an irregularity In pro cedure in the Initial vote. The ladies' auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles will sponsor a food sale at the De troit Maket Saturday, July 25 Etch member la ssked to bring cooked food. After dinner a tour of the Hackworth Croft lillies In the Wheatland district was made. Attending were: Mrs. Ames Holdredge, Mrs. Del Morga ridge, Mrs. Roscoe Roberts, Mrs. Albert May. Mrs. Clayton Richards and Infant daughter, Mrs. John Hackworth, Mrs. T Lyman. Mrs. Ralph Curfman. Amity Mrs. J. W. Walling entertained the Sunshine club of Custer Relief Corps No. 5 of McMinnville with a lawn party at her home recently. A no-host luncheon was served at 12:30. Mrs. E. M. Esley, vice pres ident, presided at a brief bus iness meeting. Dr. and Mrs. Charles H. Law and granddaughter, Catherine Stocker, have returned from a vacation trip to Yellowstone National Park. While there they were guests at Mammoth Hot Springs Lodge. Catherine was invited to present her hula dance on an evening program at the lodge. The party visited Salt Lake City, Reno, Sacramento, Oak land, San Francisco, the red woods and traveled the coast highway en route home. They visited the Dr. E. H. Hahn fam ily in Sacramento and the Dwight Ellenwoods in Oak land. G. E. Gillaspie will teach arts and crafts at junior boys' camp, Arrah Wanna, July 18 23. Monty Turpin of the Baptist Sunday school accompanied him to the camp. Falls City M. V. Sample and family, who recently mov ed to Thorn, Calif., were in Falls City Tuesday for a few hours transacting business. Mr. Sample was on the city council and the vacancy will be filled by appointment in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. Hank Donor have rented the M. V. Sample house. Robert and Jean Richards, who are employed at Oakridge were home over the weekend. Eddy Bakke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bakke, and Glenn Cooper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Cooper, are home on a short furlough of one week. Both boys are paratroopers and will co to Fort Benmng, Ga, where tey will attend jumping school for three weeks before sailing tor Korea. Thomas (Shorty) Smith hss had the flu recently. Edward Bakke, Sr., has been very iU with virus pneumonia and pleurisy, but is recovering slowly. A. L. Fletcher has a severe case of flu. , Mrs. Frank Campbell made a call upon their family phys ician Thursday, who pronounc ed her illness to be flu. A small son, Leroy, became 111 immediately after they reached home. Mr. and Mrs. Granville Wil son were weekend guests of their son, Jim Wilson, of Gresh. am and family. Jim coaches junior Legion baseball this season and will teach again' the coming school term in the Gresham school system. A game of baseball was play ed on the Falls City diamond by small boys of Dallas and Falls City Thursday night, with Dallas winning 2 to 1. Dayton Unionvale Unlonvale Mr. and Mrs. E. J. They will be away about three weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Swee ney received word on, Wed nesday that a son bad been born to their daughter, Mrs. Fran (Phyllis) Trusty of Cot tage Grove. The boy weighed 8 pound! 1 ounces and has been named Robert Michael. This la their first child. Mrs. Sweeney left for her daughter's . home on Sunday Jim Zupo of the Dayton Va riety store was called to Ba caville, Calif., because of his mother's illness. Mrs. L. Docherty and two daughters have left for Glad stone to attend the SJXA. camp meeting for a week. Mrs. Nellie Roger, of Van couver, B.C., who has been visiting here for the past week with her cousin, Mrs. Frank Foster, left Wednesday for home. .
