16 Capital Journal, Salem, Ore., Thursday, March "21, 194ft 'Most Robbed Bank - A Sort 'Of Speakeasy' Will Close Carbon, Ind., March 21 (U.R) Judge B. Marshall, president of the Carbon state bank, announced today that he was going out of business July 1. "Let somebody else's bank be the most frequently robbed financial in sthutio.i in Indiana," Marshall sai.l Marshall, 71, is sole em ploye of the bank. He said the vo:untary liquidation not only would paralyze the Carbon banking industry nut also the hoidup and burglary business. Actually, however, locking the bank doors for good will be only a formality, for Marsh all has conducted business with the doors locked since 1940. Marshall was the victim of one $0,000 holdup and three vUits by yeggmen during the latj 1830's and in 1940, Then he derided he'd keep the doors locked all the time and admit only people he recognized. Tne precautionary measure failed to work, however. In 1944, two men rapped on the bank door during business hours. Marshall thought he knew them, so he admitted thtm. They stuck a gun in his ribs ard took $500 in bank funds. Today, Marshall still keeps Quarantine's Support 'Must' Unless nurserymen, fruit growers and farmers support rigid enforcement of federal quarantine No. 37, they are go ing to find a lot more foreign the doors locked, 24 hours a day. Patrons observe regular banning hours, but Marshall goes to work at 6:30 a.m. and stays until 5 p.m. bugs and plant diseases infest ing their crops, the state agri culture department said today. Quarantine No. 37 is design ed to protect the country from introduction of serious plant diseases and pests such as the Japanese beetle, oriental fruit moth, Dutch elm disease, white fringe beetle and others that have crept in from foreign lands and secured strangleholds on various crops, Frank Mc Kennon, chief of the state divi sion of plant industry of the state agriculture department said. McKennon says that Oregon growers can help fight these pests by supporting an increase in the appropriations to the and plant quarantine, which is the enforcing agency for fed eral quarantines. The federal federal bureau of entomology bureau's work has become vast ly greater with the tremendous increase in travel between coun tries, McKennon declared.
