( Biddle assailed the Spanish political party in announcing (hat denaturalization proceed ings have been started against Puerto Rican member, Isidore tonde Fernandez, 40. It was the first justice department ac tion of its kind against a fa jangist, but Biddle hinted that ethers might follow. "j Asserting that Franco "heads the falenge and dictates its de frees," Biddle said the party was dedicated to "re-establishment 'pi the-lost empire of Spain." It 4s, he added, "the prototype in iPpain of the fascist and nazi parties in Italy and Germany." c The government seeks to re voke Fernandez' citizenship on ithe ground that "by reason of Jiis lack of attachment to con stitutional principles he is not entitled to the privileges of American citizenship," Biddle said. The government, he said, will base its case on the fact that "membership in the fa lange and other evidence indi cates that the defendant advo cated a totalitarian form of gov ernment and subscribed to oth er principles of the falange in imical to democracy, either at the time of his naturalization or during the five years immedi ately preceding it." Fernandez, a resident of San Juan, was born in Spain in 1897, came to Puerto Rico in 1915, was naturalized in March, 1942, and joined the falange in January, 1B38, Biddle said. Doolittle acknowledged that Hitler "must be finished first," but added, "when this Is accom plished we hope to go to the Pacific and join American, Brit ish and allied forces who are al ready winning land, sea and aTr victories of increasing magnitude."
