M FOR THE LOVE OF PAM i By VJVIEN GREY Chapter 20 May Frisbee Alone In his own room, Jerry won dered vaguely Just how much dif ference this development would make with Pam and himself. Not that he doubted Pam. Money would make no difference to her. If she cared for him with money, she would care for him without it, But he was concerned about his own share of the thing. He would have nothing to offer her now. He had wasted his years pretty gen erally. He had made no start in business at all, due to the faot that he had always supposed his father's money would bo enough to keep him. And there wore other things. His thought lingered darkly on thnt. May Frisbee. May had been one of tho gay companions of his lighter and more careless hours. And May had refused to forget. With his allowance cut off ho would bo un able to appease May with expensive gifts. Ho wondered vaguely Just what her reactions would be. Prob ably not pleasant. May, whom he hod met at a Greenwich Vlllago cocktail party, had fastened to him with eager good nature aftor their first moot ing, Jerry wasn't in lovo with any one, so he hadn't minded. May was quite lovely to look at, She was ft dancer, she oxplalncd, soon "to be "at liberty," because tho show was elating. And she had remained "at liberty" after sho found that Jerry was the son of tho very rich Wlnthropes. Jerry hadn't minded. She had been an amusing and agreeable companion. That would have to stop now, and Jerry was glad. He'd write May, he reflected, and tell her what had happened. May was ft good sport and she would understand. Thoy had never been more than gay companions. After all, he had been more than kind to her in tiding her over rough places. Ho heard Lcnoro go Into her room Just before he went to sleep. It must bo morning, he thought. He wondered whet Vln Barolll, tho local musician, was liko and hoped he wasn't taking Lenoro too seri ously, Lenoro was merely playing with tho handsome youth. Jerry grinned a little as he thought of Gcrvaso de Bcllcfort. Gcrvaso had planned so much on trading his fine old name for a goodly share of the Wlnthropo fortune, with 'jenoro thrown In for good measure. It was jolug to be pretty tough for SCHOOL TIE S In his customary boater (hat), a latl from exclusive Harrow school lines up s Irss-schoolcd seventeen year-olds at a labor exchange In London, lo re Inter under new conscription law. llartow had Its boys reniMcr at these labor ex Chances, as an example to other British public schools, which had loucht ipcclal facilities. "A nice show you'ro making of yourself," sho said as sho dropped into a chnlr opposite him. "If I can match you, I'm good," was Jerry's reply. "You'ro going to ruin everything for me, getting serious with that basket girl. What do you suppose Gervase will say when he sees what you wont to bring into the fomily?" "If ho has any sense he'll say he envies me." "Idlotl If you'd Just play around with hor, It would bo understand able. But getting serious." "I know." Jerry was suddenly very serious. "That would bo be yond your ken. Well, you really haven't much to worry about Len oro. Not about do Bcllcfort, I mean. KSI.M (Kill) Kilocycles Monday 1".
