Styled like a man's, they have soft, high revers over which the collars of your favorite shirts and blouses fit gracefully. Some come with their own detachable white pique or linen over-collars. Shirt-collar Jackets arc the choice of everyone from college girls to young matrons. Of course there are lots and lots of other Jacket styles to chose from, including car digan and rever Jackets, double- breasted and link-button styles and jackets with Peter Pan collars. The new jackets are longer this year (26 to 28 inches) and have smoother shoulders and more easily fitted waistlines. They feature three or four patch pockets, sometimes button-trimmed, or novelty shaped pockets. Wide variety of styles in cludes button-front ityles, 2, 3 or 5-button jackets. Pastel colors are headlined for Spring with glen and rainbow plaids, checks and pln-strlpes also featured. Shetlands, tweeds, wools, and menswear fabrics are widely used and covert is seen, too, though not as frequently as the others. Pastel corduroy Is, as always, pop ular especially with the younger set. As for skirts, they are box-pleat ed, all-around, gored or flared. Some have high kick pleats. All are designed for free and easy walking. And they are of the same fabrics and colors as the jackets. Your local stores carry them all and you can mix-match them you please. 7947 Fashion. Picture Gay With Colors Viewed from the beginning, the 1941 fashion picture shows every in dlcatlon of being one of the mosl eventful in many years. With the U. S. defense program looming larger and larger on the national scene, some fashion conv mentators are uncertain as to the eventful effect the military atmos phere will have upon clothes, par ticularly on men's wearing apparel. The general consensus, however, is that for the time being men's clothes will continue to bear no marked resemblance to military styles. The only noticeable military effect on clothes, at this time, Is the be. ginning of a trend toward light tan and various shades of brown, to gether with the growing popularity of homespuns and tweeds and top coats with military collars. Fatrlotle Motif Perhaps the newest notes In men's clothes this year Is the emergence of blues and gray-blues In suits worn with accessories which strike the patriotic motif with neckties, handkerchiefs, socks and even gar ters appearing in red, white and blue, Shirts are striking the same note with red, white and blue stripes. This seems to be about as far as the military trend has gone. On the other hand, civilian dress has definitely influenced military styles, believe it or notl In contrast to the 1917-18 picture, when men's clothes effected tight-fitting coats, half or whole-belted, it is the sol dier's tunle today which has chang ed In deference to the present cus tom of comfort first, with bl swing pleats in the soldier's coat allowing greater freedom than ever before. Brown and Blue "Musts" The definite "news" this year Is the shift to brown and blue In spring suits. Heralded as "must" are me new shades caned peat Drown end rust brown. These colors will be seen in not only worsteds for business wear, but also In tweeds for sports and semi-sportswear. The trend of last year to single- breasted suits In preference to dou ble-breasted has apparently halted, with the double-breasted jacket not only holding its own but coming Into greater favor. Lapels on the double-breasted coats are rolled to the bottom buttons. Likewise chalk stripes are continuing in favor for business wear, while the colorful tweeds of 1940 are even more color ful this year featured by pronounc ed over-squares. It is the tweeds and the worsteds this year offering wider color range than In the past which re tain leadership In the drive toward more gayety and Imagination In ac cessories. Topcoat Continue Short Topcoats continue to be short. The (ingle-breasted, fly front covert coat With peaked lapels ranks among the leaders preferred by business men. Other leaders are Harris tweeds and Plaid tweeds. Soft Silhouette Is Fashion News Fashion news in Spring suits Is a "soft" silhouette, achieved through slightly sloped shoulders, Moused waistlines, shirtwaist cuffs, longer, easier jackets and pleated skirts. Newest suit skirts feature pleats that make the straight silhouette a natural and fluid one. Many of the Jackets have shawl collars or rounded revers for a more femi nine line. Children to Enjoy New Fashions, Too Children are going to enjoy the new fashions created for them lor Spring, 1041, because they have been designed to appeal to their imag inations. They will be thrilled with the nautical fashions in navy and red with flaunting gold and silver emblems; they will enjoy the exotic colorings of fashions inspired by South America; they will have fun In fashions adapted from the tra ditional costumes of American cow boys and Indians and they will goto-town once again In casual sporta clothes borrowed from that rugged Individualist, the American college boy. They will take a pride In these new clothes because they express the spirt! of America, a spirit of which they are now so sharply aware. Of course navy Is slated for a leading place because of the Inter est in nautical fashions, but the new color trend in children's wear Is toward nasturtium tones. Just visualize the glowing colors of the nasturtium flower and you will see the orangy-plnk, warm cocoa tans and soft beiges that are going to blossom forth In spring coats, suits and dresses for children. They fit Into the South American scheme, too. Men's Wear Fabrics Used The best looking new coats for every age from toddler to teen are in fabrics usually associated with men's clothes. You will love the glen checked worsteds, the clear sliep herd checks and sharkskins and the men's wear gray flannels. Cav alry twill Is a favorite for navy blue coats which, Incidentally, shows a tendency to look more like dresses than coats. You will understand what we mean when you see their shirt collars and sleeves. When It comes to cotton dresses pique is the most popular fabric of the season and twin prints givo a new flair to many of the new frocks. Victorian rose prints are charming for little girls, either in pique or glazed chintz (it retains its glaze after washing). Spun ray on and rayon sharkskins will appeal to older girls and for afternoon frocks there's nothing like rayon or silk prints. One of the new trends of the season In cottons is the large, splashy prints, some times In bor der effects. One of the Important dress-up fashions for teens is the silk or rayon print dress with wool en jacket, dyed to match the back ground of the print. Flower Trimmed Bonnets Important ' What is the ideal Easter out fit? It is navy with white or red; it is natural tan with cocoa-brown accents; it is nasturtium pink with cocoa brown. And flower-trimmed bonnets are the preference.
