A large crowd to expected. - Hearing Tests Given Students Lebanon Only a small percent of the Lebanon school pupils who were given hearing tests Tuesday and Wednesday of this week reacted un satisfactorily, results received by Superintendent Milton K. Of the 630 examined In all day examinations Tuesday and In the morning Wednesday, 31 were report ed to have defective hearing of anv serious nature, or four percent The tests were conducted by Pauline Keller and Dr. OJ.0. Reports have not yet been learned here of the results of the examin ations given to students of several rural schools In this neighborhood Wednesday morning and afternoon. Elected as a member of the board of trustee was Stanley Swan son reading the treasurer's report and also the report of the year's accom plishments of the Ladles' Aid com piled by Mrs. R. O. Solum, was H. N. Kiev; Hannah Olson, super intendent of the Sunday school, made the report for her department. and told of the success of the "Church Calendar" birthday scheme that made a net gain of $150 for the department; Mrs. J. M. Jenson reported for the leagues of the young people of the church, and Os car Loe read the cemetery report written by R. O. Solum, treasurer of the board. T. 0. held It annual missionary meeting Monday afternoon at the Christian church. The missionary societies of the various local church es were guests and contributed to the afternoon' program. The business session was presided over by Mrs. J. H. cady. Mr. James Riddell appeared In a talk on mis sionaries, stressing the work of two workers tn the mission field. Mrs. Artie Mack's talk dealt with prayer and faith. Miss Dill sang two solos accompanied by Miss Mary Walker and Mrs. Eldon Riddell and Mrs. J. L. Norrla gave a duet with Mr. W. A. Elkln at the piano. A silver tea and social tune con cluded the meeting. Sparks, pro fessor of physical education at Wil lamette university, was the main speaker at chapel. Sparks spoke on physical fitness. As a basis for his remark he used the statistics that he gathered in last year's state tournament. After his talk he showed moving pictures of Wil lamette university football games and also one reel of the big east ern football team. After chapel a reception for the teacher was held In Wenona hall. witn tne senior students being host. 8park was guest of honor. Croft, 58, and Mrs. Jessie Beamer, 52, of Shedd, sis ters, who were killed Wednesday evening, when their car was struck oy an Oregon Electric work train at a grade crossing three miles west of Tangent, near the Cecil Montgomery home, whence the two women were returning home. Mrs. Croft and Mrs. Beamer were daughters of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Brock, pioneers of the Shedd community. Mrs. Croft was bom October , 1880. at Shedd, and was married In 1901. Surviving Is a dau ghter, Mrs. Edith Stewart, of Shedd. Mrs. Beamer was born at Oakrldge May 1, 1886, but had spent most of her life In Shedd. She was married to Roy Beamer October a, 1930. He survive. Both are survived also by two bro thers and two sisters: Irvln Brock, Salem, and R. E. Brock, Spokane, and Mrs. Mary Arnold and Tempa Brock, Shedd. Funeral service are to be held In Shedd Saturday with burial In the Pugh cemetery. OOPTTHM - Safety Council Given Reports Dallas The traffio safety council met In the chamber of commerce room Wednesday night. Charles Plessinger, V.F.W., reported that two signs had been placed on Main street at the elementary school building and these signs were pro vided by the V.F.W. post The meeting decided to accept the offer or the Lions' club to fur nish "safety" book covers to every student in the Junior high school. The question of placing another stop sign for the elementary school building near the intersection of Church and Ash will be reported on the next regular meeting by Mrs. Albert Bennett, chairman of the publicity committee. The chairman, W. Blackley. secre tary of the council, who presided In the absence of Donald Gabbert, re quested reports from the accident study and engineering committee and one from the enforcement com mittee. Fuhr delivering a brief sermon and leading In opening devotional. The pastor's yearly summary report re vealed the addition of 76 members during the year by baptism and ap plication. The apportionment to the genera budget requirement were entirely met The report on the accrument of the church organ fund was re ferred back to the organ commit tee. The church auditorium and social and Sunday school room will be completely redecorated and re painted. The salary of the minister was raised. Bach department of the church made report. Larson, assistant organ ist, and Tom Anderson as head ush er. Booster Club Holds Meeting Jefferson The Community Boos ter elub meeting wa weU attended Tuesday evening. Dr. H. C. Epley gave a talk on the welfare of the city, among other things, suggest ing that bUl boards be put on the highway at the city limits adver tising Jefferson. E. C. Hart, W. D. Bames and Jack Tyson wa the committee appointed to look after It and also to work with the city council on any new business com ing to Jefferson.
