OREGON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1933 CREDIT GIVEN : FOR COURSES BY EXTENSION ' People ol Salem will be extended the opportunity of taking regular college and university courses, for credit If desired, during the coming school year, it is announced by W. G. Bcattle, of the general extension division of the state board of high er education. Courses, which will be held evenings at the Salem high school, will include school hygiene, mental hygiene, office procedure, educational psychology and book and play reviewing. All courses will start during the week beginning September 25 ' The faculty, all of whom are well known and are authority in their educational fields, will consist of O. Jt. Chambers, professor ot psychol ogy at Oregon State coltege; H. V. Matthew, professor of education, general extension division; S. Stepheation' Smith, associate pro fessor of English at the University of Oregon; H. T. Vance, professor ot business administration at Ore gon State college, and George W. Hug, city superintendent of schools here, who will teach the course In school hygiene. The course in educational psy chology will include a study of the laws of learning and their applica tion to the classroom; motovation In learning, transfer of. training, memory, forgetting, and the psy chology of secondary school sub jects. School hygiene will deal In pro visions requisite for the hygienic conduct of education. Oregon laws, regulations of the state board of health and other school and local authorities will be explained in de tail. The course m mental hygiene Is Intended to aid the Individual In making his own adjustments to the rigors of social life, as well as to help him In aiding others. The course is of particular value to teachers, parents and group leaders. A training in stenographic mctn bds and office practices - will be found in the course on office pro cedure. Principles and practices of scientific office management cov ering organization, arrangement and operation, with special consid eration of the employment and training of office workers will be studied. Students may register for the courses at the first or second meet ings. Full Information may be ob tained from the general extension division at Eugene.
