Friday afternoon I was In In dependence where Ross Nelson, owner of the Islg Theater, had asked ail children of that city to coma to big moving picture how as his guest for a special news reel ho wing many fcenes in the north land. This made ma long for the loe and snow and I might have been homesick If it were not for the smiling faces of nearly 300 boys and girls that welcomed me to Independence. Independence Is not as large as Sllverton nor Dallas, but 1 think all the children were at the thea ter for I went outside once or twice while you were watching the picture and did not ae me, but I could not find any children around town. It was very kind of Mr. Nelson to offer the use of his theater for he Is only keeping It open two night a week and I am sure the little guest appreciated his kindness. Friday night I visited the folks at the state tuberculosis hospital and I am mighty glad I did, for both grown-ups and the youngsters gave me fine welcome. Out there I found something that made 'me sad. In the ward where they keep the patients who are unable to leave their beds are two elderly women who have no money. Every. body but these two old ladies have special radio head-sets by which they can plug In and hear music whenever they want to, but they have not enough money to pur chase these set which the state does not provide. One of the at lendants informed me that these cost only 81.75 each, so I prom. ised that I would bring them set for Christmas and you should have seen how happy it made them. Maybe I will have to call on some of the Salem folks to help me, for my supply of seta may have been exhausted while I have been away from my workshop.
