WILL PLANS OF EIGHT STORIES Details of a plan to erect an 8 story building; at th corner of aouth Liberty and Ferry streets, opposite the Salem armory, were made public yesterday by George C. Will. The building Is estimated to cost nearly $100,000. Work of construction will begin next June The building will measure 166 feet In length, and extend from Liberty street back to the alley running between Liberty and Commercial streets. It will be 67 feet wide, extending to the mid dle of the brick building now oc cupied by the Eiker Automobile company. Erection of the new structure involves tearing down the old wooden building, origin ally n livery stuble and now uaed as a garage, at tho corner of Lib erty aud Ferry street, and at least half of tho adjoining brick building. The Eiker Automobile company, a small barber shop and a small restaurant now occupy . space involved. Practically the entire building, when constructed, will be given over to business offices. Mr. Will V:iU-d this morning. "There Is a hiivy demand in Salem for busl nesa offices," he said. Space may be1 allowed for a large room cap riole of sealing 100 or more per sons. Special scenery is being made for the show and from all pros pects at the present time the show will furnish more fun than ever before. It packs about one hundred and twenty million pounds-annually. Tho farmers In the country sur rounding Salem find a good mar ket for their livestock. The Pack- mills on the coast. Its annual Ing company In turn supplies many of tbe western Oregon meat markets. Other Industries that play an Important part are the canneries. The- largest of these are the Ore gon Packing company and Hunt's cannery which handly large amounts of fruit and vegetables. Salem's newest industry, which we believe will soon be a lead ing one, Is the manufacture of flax. Those Industries and oth ers of less importance are the source of employment of many people. In the last few years Salem has grown rapidly. Many people have come to Sulein from the east, have built faoiu6 and found employ ment. With the growth of these Industries more people will con tinue to come. The country Bur rounding Salem has proved ex cellent farm land. There are many orchards of prunes, apples, Cherries and other fruits. Be cause of the abundance of cher ries Salem Is known as the "Cher ry City.'' These orchards are es pecially beautiful on our annual Blossom Day, Many farmers are engaged In raising livestock, grain and other agricultural pro ducts. As Salem supports more Indus tries every year, farmers will havo a larger market for their products. The amount of raw and ot manufactured products export ed tn the last two years was very largo compared to former years. The amount ot monoy spent ex ceeded that of years in the past. Ail this growth of Salem such as building of homes, Increase in population, wealth, and agricul ture Is due to the development ot the Industrial plants of this cap ital city.
