A spirit ot op tiniiem pervades industry every where says Oram, and the lumber Industry should equal 1925 in manufactured material. f or ft numutr oi numms, uu says, "operators claim, lumber hue been sold below the cost of pro duction and regardless of condi tions in the lumber market wages have remained wiUiout change for several months due no doubt to a realization that wages are now at a level that will not permit further reductions in view of the cost of living. The lumber operators have faith that 1920 will be a big build ing year; that production will be curtailed by severity of weather the next few months depleting etock on hand but with the coming of spring weather there will be heavy production of lumber and better prices, "The consensus of opinion socms seems to be that struc ural build ing in Oregon ia 1926 will equal the yoer 1925. Therefore the spring wheat acreage will no doubt be consider ably increased, but there will doubtless bo a falling off of gen eral production as the spring crop is lower in production. The essay produced by her was tied for first place amonjf 8th graders In the contest. It reads as follows: Salem is ftften called the "City of Peace." It Is called this because the word Salem means peace and because there are no mobs and strikes here. The workmen are contented so they do not strike.
