Public health nursing, consld red a vital factor In the program of health education end prevent ive medicine, making much pro eresfl in recent years, is a major activity of the Oregon Tubcrculo sis association. Fourteen Oregon counties now have one or more regular full time health nurses. In seven weeks 890 school children vers Inspected. Of the number, 250 were 10 per cent or more underweight. One hundred ninety one had defective vision. Further examination was made on 350 the number by the county health officer, Dr. V. S." Geary, who found 101 cases of diseased ton ells: 130 with teeth needing at tention: 165 showing goitre; 29 cases of adenoids; 17 cases of af fected eyelids: 6 cases skin dis ease; 9 showing affected glands 8 ortrtonedlc cases. Miss Jennings adds that she has given 20 school talks, made 22 class room Inspections and dis tributed 430 pieces of literature to school children. She has three tuberculosis cases on her list and has given them instructions In regard to their care and also shown the families how to pre vent spread of the Infection Three Infant and pre-school clin ics, with en attendance of 29, were held. Mrs W. P. Babcock was host ess at an attractive dinner yester day when 6he had as her gueetp Mr. and Mrs. John W. Woodruff of Eugene end Mr. end Mrs. Frank Woodruff and son, John W Woodruff of Gallatin, Missouri. The Woodruffs from Missouri are motoring through the west and are spending two weeks with Eugene relatives.- Later they will ko on to California to spend the winter. They are cousins of Mrs. Babcock. An additional guest of Mrs. Babcock yesterday was her moth er, Mrs. S. J. Woodruff. The December meeting of the Salem branch of the American Association of University Women will be a luncheon meeting next Saturday at the new Elks temple. Reservations for the luncheon are being made with Miss Leila John eon. secretary. The speaker for the day will be Mrs. J. C. Van Etten of Portland, on the subject of Interior decoration. Mrs. Van Btten Is an expert on this sub ject and head of the section In Portland. Fred Kubln's home on King- wood Heigths road was the ecene for several farewell parties last week when a host of friends mo tored over from Portland and other nearby towns. Mrs. Kubln and son, Lavern, are leaving the first part of this week for the couth because of III health. Mrs. L. F. Griffith-and Mrs. Frank Meredith left yesterday for Portland where they are the guests of friends for several days. The annual Christmas party of the Yo Mar Co class of the First Methodist church will be held to morrow evening at the home of Prof, and Mrs. T. S. Roberta at 505 north Summer street.
