FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16, 1925. THE CAPITAL JOURNAL, SALEM, OREGON PAGE SEVEN STUFFY MUNIS IS FOR PITTSBURGH Pittsburfih, Pa., Oct. 16 (AP) A star of the by-gone years came to hover over Pittsburgh in Its hour of greatest darkness and by Ita brilliance drew about It several little planets which for a time had been obscured by baseball's great smoke. Kaln and fog were dis pelled by "tho Illumination of the great constellation. For the Pirates of Pittsburgh to day are champions of the world once again after sixteen long years and all of them are stars of mag nitude, with the central planet car rying the grand old name of Mc-Innis. Great figures were many In the Pirates' epoch-making drive that cut down Iho mighty Walter John 6on at the last. Klkl Cuyler's dou ble won tho deciding -game after Kremer's relief hurling saved it, but the greatest guiding influence of all was that of the old first base man of the old Athletics, the team mate of Jack Barry, Eddie Collins and Frank Baker, a man who had u laved behind the auperb Jack Coombs, the peerless Chief Bender and the remarkable Eddie Plank In the fifth gamfr McKechnle, Pi rate chieftain, turned to Mctnnls and sent him out on the Held be fore a hostile throng In Washing ton to claim the title, which waa fast slipping from his grasp. Wash ington had won three games and Pittsburgh one. When Mclnnls went out to first base he took confidence with him. From then the Pirates team was reformed. The old head, station ed at the first corner of that youth ful Infield, worked marvels. When trouble threatened there came the firm words of Mclnnls across the field of play. When a moundaman faltered, the first baseman waa at bla side, urging him on.
