THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1, 1925 HE CAPITAL JOURNAL, SALEM, OREGON PAGE THREE E KLAMATH FOLKS The attitude of the state public leivko commission toward con struction of tho Modoc Northern railway line la explained in a tele gram dinpatched by the conmiis eiou to the Klamath county cham ber of commerce ui Klamath Kalla, In reply t a Bharp telegram re ceived from the Klumaih chamber In which the latter appeared to believe tho commission would op pose the Modoc Northern. The commission's telegram points out that It docs not oppose the Modoc Northern, but is opposed to its be ing eubetituted for a direct tramj etaic line. Also it points out that the road would be in California. wnile the commission is boosting ' for Oregon roads. "'jjj The Oregon commission predicts that any effort to bring the Modoc Northern question belore the in tci state com inerce comm ission bearing October 5 will be opposed from quarters other than the com 4 mission and that the interstate commerce commission will sustain th j objection for the reason that ' - it would be an introduction of i nev issues. The telegram fol low: f. "lteplying to your telegram of V, Bentemljyr 2!). We intended "4. convey tho thought that inasmuch ns application has not been filed with the in tei state commerce commission for construction of the Modoc Northern under rules of ' practice, there is not sufficient timo to file an application and suin);)iting data before the hear injr October 5. Manifestly any ef fort to brins the Modoc Northern case before the interstate com nicrce commiscjit n would - meet with objection which wolud prob ably be sustained by the interstate commerce commission on the grounds that it would introduce new issues, wniie tne commission Is not opposed to the construction of the Modoc Northern, it is op Dscd to accepting the Modoc r Northern as a substitute for a di rect trans-state line which it he licves to be of utmost importance to the development of the entire state, hut it is our firm belief that both the Modoc Northern and the triins-state line will be construct ed. "The commission must take broader view and consider the needs of the entire state. May we direct attention to the fact that tho Modoc Northern, which you state is the most important line in Or?gon, would be constructed in California, while our application Is for railroads in Oregon. The Modoc Northern would shorten the nrctunt distance to eastern mar kdts from Klamath Falls. The trans-state lino from Odell to Crane will shorten the distance from Klamath Kails to all points ea-st of Grange 57 miles under the mileage of Hie Mndoe Northern. A cross state line would shorten the OFTEN IN 24 HOURS Amazimr Results Secured in One Day Bv Use of Vircx Formerly Known As Rattle Snake Oil Deafness and Head Noises need not be dreaded any longer since the discovery of n widely known physician.
