The redskins aro sched uled to meet tho Commerce high .school on the Chemawa gridiron next Saturday and they have -started in earnest. The Indiana have the jump on most of the schools as regular football in thi high school did not start until yesterday and today, while the 1"- liana have been out for the last two weeks. Tho first scrimmage was held last Saturday and the prospect!' for a winner arc the brightest in years, due to the now men who aro out. American debt commission offi cial aro speeding up their final preparations for the formal open ing of debt funding negotiations Thursday with the French mission which is due to arrive in New York on the liner Paris tomorrow morning. The Increase in school en rollment was not as large this year as in former years, the number enrolled at the close of the first day being about the same ua on the first day last year. "This lack of increase,' said. It. E. Goetz, su perintendent of Sllverton schools, "is due to the moving away of the Silverton Lumber company mill people when the mill closed down." The grades at the close of the first day showed an enrollment of G65. At the close of the first four daye of registration of high school students tho enrollment was 225 with a number of students yet to enroll. (Spe cial.) Kntite Digerneso, eon of N. Digerness, a Silverton mer chant, left Saturday for Chicago where he will enter the Chicago Art Institute. Mr. Digerness has for a number of years shown considerable talent in drawing. During the Homer Davenport memorial fund cam paign he attracted considerable attention with bis Homer Daven port cartoons. Many declared his drawing greatly resembled that of the famous cartoonist whose draw ings Mr. Digerness used as inspir ations and models.
