Five gala days and live equally delightful nighta are be ing planned by the executive com mittee in charge of Portland's 13th annual Buyers' Week, Au gust 3-8, for visiting merchant. F. A, Spencer, chairman of the committee, aided Dy an active en tortainment group, la working hard to give the buyers the bout time ever arranged at any similar trade event anywhere. On the nlgiu the week op en a, Monday, August 3, a reception u the outside merchants and their wiveB will be held on the mez zanine floor at the Multnomah hotel. It is hilled a "A Bit of the Orient," and will resemble a color ful corner In the romantic east. Handsome Chinese and Japanese decorationt) will be lined, heir looms owned by Portland Chinese z am in es oeing loaned for the oc casion. Thousands of lanterns will be hung In the two ballrooms and the tea garden. Kefroshments, too, will be Oriental In character. The Oaks park will be the rally lng point for the outside merchants Tuesday night. Special trains will take them out to the local Coney Island and they will spend two houre going through the various trick rides and other amusements, everything being free to the guesta by reason of special cou pjna good for all Oaks attractions. The visitors will be divided into two parties on Wednesday night, Ladies among the merchants will be guests at a 'theater party at the Baker, where the Forest Taylor players will present a special play lor tnelr entertainment. The men will go to the armory where an elaborate spectacle, nev r before presented on the Pacific coast, will he produced for thorn, "Nymphs of the Woods," is the title of the Bhow and a woodland glade will he set up In the armory for the revel. This promises to he an unique amusement feature of the week a program of events. The next night's entertainment will tanvo the flavor of the sea. It will be a marine frolic, "Where the Ships of the Seven Seas Meet," at muniiepal terminal No, 4. buy ers will bu taken in automobikm from the week headquarters in the Oregon building to tho big termi nal, which will be decked with hips' flags and colored with spe cial lights fur dancing. Work In kh of the terminal, onv of the most complete in equipment to be found anywhere, will be ex plained to visitors and pnrt offi-, uials will be on duty to show them over the place. There will be fire- boat stunts and features by crews of vessels in port. Entertainment will start In the early afternoon on the following day. Visiting buyers will be tak en by automobile at 2:30 o'clock from the Oregon building to the Ruby golf farm, where they will be entered In a tournament for special prizes. Tuey will also have an opportunity to watch the state's foremost golf experts In a tourney and will probably learn some of the fine points of the game. Dr. 0. F. Willing, Rudy Wtlhelm, Mel Smith and John Junor will participate In the ama-teur-professonal competition. There will be airplane stunts, too, pony raceB, dashes and hurdle jumps by a team of 15 track ath letes, sideshows, a barbecue and a pyrotechnic display In the evening. Business engagements the buy ers keop will have to be sandwich ed In between amusement stunts. The Portland hosts, apparently. are not intending to have their guests give much thought to their business affairs during the rive days and certainly none at all during the five nights program med. ORDERED SOLD Medford, Or., July 2'3. Decrees ordering the sale of three automo biles confiscated tn this county under the law prohibiting the transportation of liquor, were filed Monday. One of these Is a car formerly owned by Sim Pate, serving a life sentence in the state prison for the Scandinavian hall holdup at Klamath Falls last, January, when Gus Erlckson was murdered. The car was seized last December when Pate and John Taylor were arrest ed for liquor violations.
