QUEEN MARY OPENS MATERNITY HOSPITAL London, July 17 (AP) Queen Mary added several devotees to her list of admirers yesterday when she opened an extension of the Salvation Army's maternity hoapltul in the East EnU of Lon don. Murphy, fl2, St. Paul, Or., died July 15th at St. Vincent' hospital, Portland. Mr. Murphy was born on the farm two miles north of town, and lived here all his life, naving retired a few years ago, with only the gravel business to look after. He is survived by nis widow Emma Murphy, and uiree gmicren, an ot wnom are grown, one son Howard who lives In the east and two daughters Frances and Beatrice at home. The funeral services were held at the St, Paul church on Friday morn ing at 10:30. Interment in the St. Paul cemetery. Iiammer during Miss Jensen's ab sence. 1 CENTRAL HOWELL Central Howell, July 17 Mr. and Mrs. William Roth of Salem parents of Henry .and Ernest Roth returned Thursday from an extend ed trip east. They drove through to Kansas and report extremely hot weather there. They stopped In Washington on their return trip, for a visit with relatives. Dan Steffen and family motor ed to Portland Sunday morning. Miss Ellen Steffen who spent few daya there returned home with them In the evening. A large Essex automobile late Saturday night crashed through a guard fence on a. sharp- turn on the Salem -Silverton highway near the Central Howell school and was badly wrecked. As far as could be learned no one was hurt. It was apparently a stolen car as It was deserted just a few minutes after the accident, according to a pass erby and no claim has been made for the car to date. Many people from this commun ity have been enjoying the band concerts and fountain display at Salem. Mrs. Geo, Ntman and children, Dorothy and George, Jr., spent few days at the Joe Kaser home going back Saturday evening. FIVE KILLED IN COLLISION Billings, Mont., July 17 Five unidentified persons were killed and two others injured seriously here early today when a Chicago, Burlington and Qulncy passenger train crashed Into an enclosed au tomobile at a grado crossing. The car was ground to bits and the bodies of the victims scattered along tho right of way. HEALTH CLINIC AT BROOKS SET JULY 21-2 Brooks, July 17 The Marlon county health examination for children of pre-school age and for babies, will be held In the Metho dist church at Brooks on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 21 and 22. Whether older children will also be examined at this time will de pend on the response to this op portunity. If the time does not permit, a later date may be ar ranged.
