Kistner, former resident of Salem and sister of Mra. Nellie Tovnsend, who no v lives at H32 Center street, w.w in the recent earthquake at Santa Barbara and came near losing her Ufa at the time, A California newspaper reaching Salem carries her story with large headlines. Mrs. Kistner is also aunt of Mr.s. Robert Duncan, former Sulem resi dent, Mr. Duncan being at ono time secretary of the chamber oi commerce here. Tho Duncan's moved to Silverton three yoavs ago, he becoming connected with a furniture store there. At 6:45 o clock oa tho morning of June 29, before anyone in the house had risen, she felt a sharp. whuiing motion that sent the house furniture spinning.
