Report of health work carried
on in Salem elimentnry schools

Indicates a gradual and consistent
improvement In children's pos
tures since the work was begun.
The close of the school year
1924-1925 saw the number of pu
pils in elementary school needing
attention reduced to 5.0 per cent,
As compared with 10.4 per cent
at the closo of the previous year.
There were three checks taken In
the year Just closed, revious to the
check at the end of the year.. A
check taken In November showed
that 31.1 per cent of the children
had Incorrect postures and needed
Individual attention. In February
the percentage wa reduced to 16.9
and a check in April showed 10.9
per cent still defective.
Garfield heads the list of schools
as having the lowest percentage of
pupils needing individual attention.

drum corps will go to Portland.
Friday, to participate In a parade
held in connection with tlte "Mer
rykana" festival, it was announced
this morning by Carl Ilingee, man
ager of the cot pa. The organiza
tion will make the trip to Port
land. Friday morning, participate
in the parade Friday afternoon
and take part In a competitive
drill held on Multnomah field on
the same day. Legion fife and
drum corps from all parts of the
slate will take .art in the contest.
Prizes have been offered aggregat
ing 300.
Tile local corps is slated to lead
tho parade of hospitality clubs
through Salem when they are
feted tonight.
On Wednesday, June 24, the fife
and drum corns will leave Salem
for Prineville to participate In
the state convention there. The
manager here baa also received an
invitation to bring the cor pa to
Portland an 1 rarade during the
Elks' national convention next
month. The invitation will be ac
cepted.

TORTURERS OF

Holland conferred with the
judge otter tbe verdict waa ren
dered and said he was satisfied
with vindication.
The defeadants deuied they bad
lured Iloliand to tbe office. They
said be bad threatened to write a
derogatory Utter regarding Mlsa
MacClymont and after they had
searched him unsuccessfully for
such a letter, Holland punched
MacClymont. ,
The twisters were used then to
subdue him, tbe defendant said.
. MacClymont aaid he did not
hurt Hollaed much, but in a
demonstration with a court at
tendant of how the twisters were
applied, the attendant (ell to bis
knees gasping with pain.
MacClymont testified that after
the twisters were applied Holland
admitted that be had been a cad
and got wh.it he deserved.
