PAGE EIGHT CHERRY GROWERS ASK EIGHT BENEFIT OF RISE OF PACKERS HERE The committee named at the cherry grower! meeting to confer with eanners last nlht hail their tonference, and a conference amoiitf themselves after the meeting wnn the eanners. and a a result c A Clark, proaldent of the new eanizatlon. today put up a propo nit ion to cannem that a mlnumum of 8 cents a pound bo fixed on Koyal Annes, eanner to agree to moet tho market nrice. It la known that one of the Uivk er cannera haw offered 8 ccntH flat for Jtoyal Annes but balked on the proponition of meeting market IncreaHPH. This wan before the meeting, however. It has not been learned how tho cannera are taking to the growers' proposal on tho 8 cent price wun mo niurnei mlvnnce. Tho crowers havo no Idea of what Runs may Intend to do when he conieH in here In the price line, or any other possible Royal Anne buyers. It is possible there will be other buyers with reports rrom California and other districts that a short crop Is threatened and as a result the growers uesire some nroteetlon. On the other hand they made It plain In their conference with the eanners that they had no Intention or desire to running hog wild a nrice nroiioHition. i ho more conservative growers ore taking the attitude that they want a fair nrice vcar afler voar and are will Jne to forego tho occasional big profits In years when cherries run wild in nrice and as a result de moralize the market for future years. "What wo want Is some sort of stability In tho market that can more or less depend on from -5'enr to year and realize something on our cherries year after year and give the buyer tho chance to do the same thing," said one prom Inent grower connected with the organization. It was agreed at tho meeting last night that tho organization would make no effort to pool their cherries nnd sell them In a single ewlpe. It was agreed that din ners would go out Independently as In tho past and buy their cher ries Independently from tho vari ous growers. Farmer Hdw. Co. Everything In Hardware T TO SHIP GREEN The proposed experiment for shipping of green gooseberries east will be tried out. This became known definitely to day when it was announced that Frank Crawford, one of the larg est growers, with a few others. will be extended the facilities or Hunt brothers cannery In prepar ing for green shipment of their her ricfl to eastern markets for the first time to try to seek a new and possibly excellent outlook for the berries. It Is expected three or four cars will be shipped by way of experiment and the results no doubt will have a- great bearing on possibllitiea for such green ship ping In future years. Crawford has about 35 acres of gooseberries and will probably handle about 30 tons. His goose berries are reported to be In fine condition, the patch having been well kept, carefully sprayed and handled up to the top notch of perfection. It Is stated If nny gooseberries can get by and make good Impression with nn experi ment of this kind his should. Tho growers will handle tho con signing of the berries on their own hook, nnd pocket any profits or losses. Hunt brothers merely have extended the use of the facilities of their plant to them to assist In putting over tho experiment and ascertaining whether It may bo a profitable venture, for this year, and for yours to come. 'Iho experiment is one that will bo watched with keen interest by growera as gooseberries havo re ceived something of a bump as a inning berry and if It can be ship lied green with profit will open up good outlet.
