first to determine accurately de
tails of the picture.
Here a whole house has been
moved from Its foundations; at an
other place a side had been ripped
off, while In other cases, what had
once been homes was nothing but
little jilles of twisted wreckage.
From the field north of the
Orient mine, one of the town's
chief sources of livelihood, the
dark outlines of rescue workers
probing the debris for bodies were
visible. Here and there could be
heard the pltful cries of the Injur
ed still pinned boneath the wreck
age. Some of thcae were extricat
ed Just before breathing their last,
while others died as they were
hastened to emergency hospitals
or other homes.
One of tho most pitiful sights
was that of a mother lying terri
bly mangled while an Infant cry
ing tastily, crawled about her in
ert form.
Scenes Are Pitiful
At ail other home the body of a
woman was found on the porch,
a, deep gash In her head. She ap
parently nv.'t her fate while en
deavoring to flee from the torm.
A miner still In his pit clothes
and carrying the limp form of i
five year eld child walked deject
edly In the path of rescue work

til yesterday constituted his home.
Ln the debris were found his wife
and another son. both terribly in
Jured. The morgue was filled to
over flowing with bodies. On one
side of the structure were the bod
ies of eighteen babies.
Practically every delivery truck
in the city was converted into am
bulances. Easiness houses were
clotted

Rescue parties from Tuscuinbia

stricken families ut Littlevilie,
this county, where a tornado kill
ed one and injured several others.
The home ot William Green was
demolished by the wind. Green
was killed and his wife and five-year-old
daughter badly injured.
