March 18. William Nelson McL'lintock, known as the "millionaire orphan," died at the horns of his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. William D. Shepherd laet December 4, while bit fiancee. Miss Isabella Pope, waited with a marriage license to wed aim. By the term of a will brought forth by Shepherd and drawn up by nim shortly after young Mc CI in lock reached his 21st birth day, nearly a year ago, his entire tUUe, valued at upward of $1. 600,000, waa left to Shepherd ex cept for an annuity of JSGOo which the will directed be given to Miss Pope, although no provi sion (or the annuity waa made. Three weeks after McCMutock'e death, Judge Harry Olson, chief justice of the municipal court and a lifelong frien& ot the McClin tcck family, asked that the young millionaire's body be exhumed and an Inquest held. Judge Olson expressed the be lief tiiut McClintock had not died i natural death and that he had been the victim of typhoid inocu lation or of poison. A chemical analysis of the body showed that death was due to typhoid fever, although the coroner's chemist did not venture an opinion as to how the fever was contracted and admitted that certain poison might nut show in a chemical analysis after death. When the investigation was launched Shepherd .and his wife, the latter a co-guardian of the youth until he became of age, were in Albuquerque, N. M. Shep herd returned here but after the chemical analysis announced that the findings had completely exon erated him and he went back to New Mexico. In the meantime several cousin? and other relatives of young Mc Clintock had indicated an Inten tion of trying to break the will .uid Shepherd charged repeatedly that th3 Investigation was simply i ruse to prejudice public opinion against him In the will contest. This has not been done. Judge Olson also declared there were mysterious circumstances In the death of young McClintock's mother thai should be Investigated. He aho declared that Shepherd went to bli office shortly after McClintock's death and took a letter written by Shepherd and in quiring about courses at the school. Possession of the McClintock millions for years has been fol lowed by ill luck. McClintock's father was killed in an automobile accident. Later the mother died after asking the Shephe-ds to rear her son. San Francisco, Cal., March 18.
