Mrs. Jtobert E. Straborn of Spo
kane, wife of a pioneer railroad
iullder of the Pacific northwest,
died yee-terday at hotel here.
Mrs. 11. E. Lacey, Lot Angeles.
,a slater of Mrs. Stratiorn, and Mrs.
Quintiro Johnson of Spokane, a
niece, were with Mrs. Struhom
when the end came. ..
Strahorn said he expected to ar
range for the shipment of Mrs.
Straborn' body to Spokane by
1 uesday.
Mrs. Straborn was conscious ut
to wtihln a few minutes of her
death.

Mrs. Carrie Adell Strahorn. who
died in San Francisco ywterduy
was the author of numerous magu
ilne articles and one book descrip
tive of her experiences during
Dearly half a century of travel
over the west as the companion
tt her husband, Kobert 10. Stra
horn, railroad builder.
Since their marriage In 1877.
Mrs. Straborn had accompanied
her husband in his work as an
engineer, traveling by stage or
horseback. She was declared to
have been the first white woman
to explore completely and deacrihv
Yellowstone park and what are
bow Glacier and Rocky Mountain
national parka. She aleo was one
ol the first women to explore and
detail the woners of Alaska.

II. Stonebrink has filed a petition
in probate.
He doc lures that prior to his
death Dr. Mutt signed a note for
$300 with Stonebrink in order to
pay hie tuxes. Part f the note
was repaid by services but the bal
ance, with Intercut, is still due. he
alleges.
He states he has made frequent
demands on the executrix for the
payment of the note. He states
she has always referred him to her
attorney, James Mott of Astoria,
who, Stonebrink etntes. has ignor
ed his Importunities.
Stonebrink states that the ap
praisement of the estate showed
assets of $38,900 In real property
and $ 1 0 1 8 in pernonnl property
with incumbrances of $18,04 2. He
states the executrix, according to
report, eold property belonging to
the estate for $34,000 mid there
is plenty of property exempt from
execution to pay the note.

The statements "we'll beat S;i

lin high school rooters greeted the

win over Eugene, Saturday after

premature estimate. The local
team demonstrated thoroughly,

ond time In history that a Salem
team has won a state champion

1920, the first year a state meet
was held, the local team eliminat
ed Lincoln in the finals by a one
point margin. Salem now has one
more tournament title to its credit
than any other school in the state,
no oilier team having won the
