MONDAY, MARCH Society and P-T Council To Meet In Silverton The firet meeting or Marion county council of parent teacher atttociutinn during the new year will be held In Silverton on Hat unlay, April 4, when the Silver ton aifeonatiou will be hoatw to all parent tear her organizations In the county. The invitation has been extended by the hoatei group to include also all inter ested In community welfare such nti local com in unity chili al though they are not affiliated with the county council. An attractive program has been arranged by Ihe Silverton association under the advice of Mrs. Cecil E. Wenderoth, presi dent of the county organization, and a member of the Highland association. Music by the Silver ton high school orchestra will open the wion at ten o'clock in the morning. Business, reports of delegates and election of officers will follow. A series of drills and folk danc es by the Silverton pupils will open the afternoon session. Dr Walter H. Brown of the Marion county health bureau, and John h. Brady will deliver the main addresses. Musical numbers plan ned are vocal (solos by Mrs. S. E. Rlchardt'on and selections by the Silverton orchestra. Lu n c neon will be served a t noon in the lunch room of 4 ho Eugene Field auditorium where all the sessions will be held. Each visiting association will furnish something with the Silverton group furnishing hot dishes. Sa lem Heights and 'Highland asso ciations will contribute salads and all others cukes and sand wlchcs. Mw. Fritz Sladc Is hostess to day to members of the Monday bridge luncheon club at a one o'clock luncheon in her home fol lowed by an afternoon of bridge. Mm. John H. Carson and Mrs Earl Flej;ei of Honolulu, are the special guests. Club members in the group are Mrs. Harry Hawkins, Mrs. T. A, Roberts, Mrs. Curtis Cross. Mm. Prince Byrd. Mrs. Arthur Ralin, Mrs. Hugh McCammon, Mrs. Er- cel Kay. Mrs. K. M. Hofer, Mrs. Frank Spears, Mrs. Dan Fry, Jr. and the hostess, Mrs. Slade. Mrs. H. H. Olinger and Mrs. Edward (lillingham were the guests for several days last week of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Watson at their home in Portland, The school session program giv en Friday afternoon by the wo men's society of the First Baptist church was greatly enjoyed by the -large number of women at tending. The reading class taught by Mrs. Earl Gregg brought out many interesting missionary thoughts and important facts con' ceruing the need for missions were emphasized by the class in "Yes! thank you, A GOOD appetite means a cheer ful disposition. Miss Mina Gile with her arithmetic class proved the value of the budget dollar, showing the many ways in which the dollar is used in both home and foreign missions. The geography class under the supervision of Mrt Theodore Roth took the principal, Mrs. O. B. Neptune and the guests on an interesting trip to our various mission districts while Mrs. Ern est H. Shank bad her history class well prepared to enlighten the audience upon the history of the women's missionary organi zation. It was reported that John D. Rockefeller, Jr., bad made a gift of over $400,000 to the women's home and foreign societies, also a gift of $225, QUO to the undesig nated fund of the general society and has offered another $225,000 if the society will raise as much as was raised in the past year which was $6,166,000. The devotional part of the pro gram was much enjoyed with Mrs. Ben Eilers leading and Mrs. Theodore Roth and Miss Mina Gile rendering a pleasing duet. A social hour followed, Mrs. E. M. ltailey, Mrs. Earl Darham, Mrs. J. F. Latham, Mrs. Harry Ralph and M rs. C. Mundinger were hostesses for the occasion. Mits Marie Churchill of Port land, spent the week end with her p a re n t s. Mr. and M rs. J . A . Churchill. Miss Genevieve Campbell spent the week end In Portland with her mother, Mrs. Frances Camp bell. Reports of nn extremely Inter esting meeting of the Northwest Poetry society at the annual ban quel at the Hazel wood In Port land on Friday evening have been given by the three Salem members of the society who weft' present Mrs. F. G. Franklin. Mrs. F. S. Rarton and Miss Edna Garfield. Officers for the yea' were installed at this time with Mrs. Franklin assuming the ofi':co of third vice president. Responses were g'ven durfn, the evening by each of the sev enty and more people seated at the banquet table.
