In Boston and Philadelphia, the San Carlo Grand Opera Company la once mora mak ing Its annual appearance on the Pacific Coast, and It la good news that Fortune Oallo's renowned organisation will present four performances In Portland, under the management of the Elwyn Concert Bureau. The date set for the engagement Is January 29th. when the com pany will open with Puccini 'a "La Tosca". This will be followed on Friday night with a rendition of "Andrea Chenler"; ''Madame Butterfly" at the Saturday mat inee, and for the closing perform ance Saturday night, "II Trora tore' has been chosen. The San Carlo Company has now entered the greatest year of Its career. Visiting nearly erery city In the country last season, the New York engagement fol lowed closely when this organ ization opened the new Jolson Theatre, playing to capacity houses during Its four-weeks' stay. Directly after the Metropolitan en gagement the company played re quest performances In Memphis, making a special trip to appear at the dedication of the big $2,000,000 Auditorium In that eity. New artists, as well as old favorites are with the company this year, and among those to ap pear In Portland are Mines. Alice Gentle, Tainakl Mlura, Blanca Saroya.
