PAGE TEN THE CAPITAL JOURNAL, SALEM, OREGON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 14, 1925 Ji The Salem school board defi nitely committed Itself to co operate in the Commonwealth fund child health demonstration program, by unanimous vote tak en at a meeting of the school board last nlxht. A committee was appointed to secure the neces sary rooms for the staff of work ers, and to do everything; else that may be of any assistance in the program. Dr. Walter H. Brown, sow tn California, will arrive in Salem next week. It has been announced. He will bring with bfm a staff of workers, who will begin at once on the county health survey, which is expected to occupy up wards of a month's time. Two hundred thousand dollars will be spent In Marion county during the next five years in carrying out the health program. Dr. Drown has recently com pleted a five year program at Mansfield, Ohio. Mansfield was the first place In the United States to secure the program Salem Is the fifth. As the plan was presented be fore the school board last night, the child health committee will furnish one nurse for every thous and children, with as many more aa necessary in case of an epidem ic. Investigations will be given whenever ami wherever needed. Medical altiftion will be given free upon request In all cases where parents are unable to secure proper medical attention for their children. The expert nurses and doctors furnished by the health commit tee will bring their own equip ment, and will he given the use of four office buildings at Boroc con venient locality in the city. The school board committee which took the matter of rooms under advisement has not definitely de cided where the rooms will be located. Action was taken providing for a eecond opportunity room to be added to the public school system. The room will be located at the Lincoln school, and pupils now attending the Lincoln, Richmond and Yew Park schools will attend. The new class will begin In about two weeks. A teacher specially prepared for the work was elected to take charge of the room. Action was taken adding one emester of mathematics to the present high school curriculum, making a full four years course. The action takes effect next semester. Various Items of minor repairs and new equipment were acted upon. BEFORE SENATE Washington, Jan. 14. Bee idee tine proposal, offered by Senator Pepper, republican, Penn sylvania, for the creation of a new court independent of the league of natiuns, two others have been ad vanced, one by Senator Swantjoa of Virginia, ranking democrat on the committee, and th other by Senator Willis, republican, Ohio. Uoth of these proposals contain the reservations suggested by Secretary Hughes and approved by Loth President Harding and Presi dent Coolidge.
