It is expected that there will be a bigger crowd of hangers-on this ime than during any special ses sion of the legislature, for besides i lawmakers, many of whom will ring tbelr f am lies, there will be he 1925 fair lobbyists, the rail tad lobbyists and the jitney lob vists with total number of about 00 Including the 89 legislators nd 10 officers of the two houses, U last but not least, the news- ipermen. Nearly everyone wants a room lth a bath, and right here is here the hotel manager must uso 'iplomacy. There aren't enough aths to go round. In order to lake everyone leel at home, the rue diplomatic hotel clerk will milage to arrange his reserva Idns so that the bath rooms can m used by two different parties, vhlch sounds simple enough. But f by some unfortunate mishap he lappens to hook op one party who "for" with another party who "furnlnst," there is liable to be jnlsslng hotel clerk, or a legisla tor unable to attend the session. In spite of the reservations, ap rptlmating 75, which have al 'trly been made, hotel men state iat they will be able to take care T everyone without sending them itslde. The commercial travel ill be slack the week before Hristmas, which will clear the ay somewhat. During a short sion, however, the demand for el rooms is heavier, for the rea- that the visitors do not seek arters in private homes as they ii during the long 40-day session. Captain A. H. Zeata dropped her doll over the rait ana u caugnt on a nail on the side of the ship," he said. The girl screamed and tne purser ran up and dragged them both to safety." Portland, Or., Dec. 8. To save time, about 45 minutes, No. 17 train was ordered to run west on the eastbound track between Biggs and Celilo. There was no ob struction on the westbound track, but by shifting No., 17 onto the eastbound track, running against traffic,- the connecting switch for the Spokane, Portland & Seattle tracks could be more conveniently and quickly made. . ! This wag why No. 17 and No. 12 came together head-on near Celi lo December 1, causing loss of life on the main track of the O-W. R. & N. company. No. 12 was east- bound. It was expected by the dispatcher's office to wait at the torn for the conductors to receive Oregon Trunk Junction until No. 17 cleared. Theoretically No. 12 train did not exist. ? 8uch was soma of the testimony Drought out at the wreck Inquiry held by the state publlo service commission yesterday. The Com mission is not seeking to fix the responsibility for the accident, nor place the blame on company or employes, but it Is endeavoring to. ascertain what condition. ex isted on that section and how. op erations were conducted at the tlm of the wreck. "It was the custom," wag the explanation made by conductors, englnemen and dispatchers when placed under cross-examination as to why rules for safe transporta tion were not lived up to the let ter. ... , For example, "it was the custom for a conductor, when coming to the Oregon Trunk Junction off the Spokane," Portland & Seattle bridge, to telephone to the dis patcher for orders and to be told to proceed to Biggs, where orders would be fixed up. It was the cus Lthe.e instructions verbally and not write them down, repeat them over over the wire to the dispatcher and give a copy to the engineer. Ap parently it was also a custom that there be DO blank forms to receive these orders at the phone booth at the Oregon Trunk Junction.
