Lake Telephone 82 Pae Eight Couple Is Honored By Reception The golden wedding annivers ary of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Gibson, whose home is on Wal lace road, was beautifully cele brated on Wednesday, May 5, at their home. The affair took the form of a reception in the after noon and many friends called to shower their congratulations up on this couple. Festivities contin ued through the evening, when an Interesting program was ar ranged. I The bride and groom of fifty years ago were married again by W. C. Milliken, who pronounced the service as nearly as possible like the one which made them man and wife. Mrs. Gibson car ried a beautiful bouquet of white carnations and fern and she was attended by her daughter, Mrs, fi. L. Johnson. Attending the groom was his son, 10. D. Gibson. Mr. and Mrs. Gibson are much heloved by all their friends and In token of this were presented with (i reading lamp. The speech of firetieiitation was made by Mrs. Ed Loose and the lamp was set In place by W. C. Franklin. Gifts iu.i telegrams of congratulation Wre showered upon Mr. and Mrs. Ofbson from relatives In Mont gomery, Missouri, Montana, Lou isiana and St. Louis. Missouri. In the program which was pre sented Miss Carol Loos and Miss JOmily Loose participated. Accom paniments were played on the or gan owned by Miss Nellie Taylor and this Is an Instrument made in 1844. Old familiar songs were pung by all those present Mr. Gibson was born In War ren county, Missouri, on April 21, J 8 4 8 . Mrs. Gibson, formerly Mary Adallne Creech, was born In Lin coin county, Missouri, on Decern ber 25, 1853. Tbey were married near Troy In Lincoln county, Missouri, on May 25, 1871, and lived there until the year 1888 when tbey came to Oregon. They have made their home in Polk county ever since. Their children are E. D. Gibson. Salem, C. R Gibson, Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. H. L. Johnson, Condon, Oregon. Out of town guests for the oc casion were Mr. and Mrs. E. Utley Surprise is Given For Mr. and Mrs. Will Mr. and Mrs. George Will were surprised last night when a group of their friends found them at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Garland on the Portland xoad and they were made the honor guests at an impromptu party. The affair was planned because Mr. and Mrs. Will are leaving soon for a trip through the east to extend over the space of a year. Tbey will return to Salem at the end of that time. Those present at the party were Mr. and Mrs. Will, Mr. and Mrs. Gariand, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Hubbard and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Townsend. Refreshments were served at the close of the evening. Four of ThemCount 'Em Federation To Convene This Week Women from all over the state of Oregon will participate this week In the twenty first annual convention of the Oregon Feder ation of Women's clubs which will meet in Pendleton May 31, June 1, 2 and 3. A complete pro gram for the occasion has ten announced by the committee which Includes Mrs. Ida B. Calla han, president; Mrs. Anna Read, Mrs. Nettie Greer Taylor, Miss Eda Jacobs, Mrs. E. T. Wade and Edith Knight Hill. From Salem delegates to te convention will be sent from the Salem Woman's club and the North Salem Woman's club. The latter organization has not yet announced Its delegates but rep resenting the Salem Woman's club the following will mak-a the trip: Mrs. W. M. Hamilton, Mrs. C. P. Bishop, Mrs. H. J. Bean, Mrs. Homer Gouley and Mrs. W. E. Kirk The program will open at noon on Tuesday with registration and placing of delegates and in the evening a formal address of wel come will be given by Mayor Hartman, of Pendleton, and the Pendleton club women will ex tend greetings. Other addresses and responses will occupy the eve ning. On Wednesday the business of the convention will begin when reports will be given. Mrs. Sarah A. Evans will speak on the "Schol arship Loan Fund." Final Ci T j surprise for her husband on the OnCert AS i occasion of his birthday when she Scheduled The home of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Solso, of New Haven, Conn., has been the mecca of neighbors for many blocks around, curiously to ee the quadruplets born to the couple, attracting the scores of visitors. The four children, three boys and a girl, are fine healthy specimens and Mrs. Solso was reported to be recovering rapidly enough to be able to leave her bed shortly. Since the birth of the infants, the proud father has stayed home from work to aid in caring for them. James weighs 5 pounds, Michael, 4, Salvator, 5, and. Angelina, 5 pounds. The bride was charming in a gown of white georgette and car ried a shower bouquet of sweet peas and Cecil Brunner roses. Ferns and wild orange blossoms adorned the rooms. Only Immedi ate friends and relatives were present to witness the service. Mrs. Lefflngwell is well known In Salem where Bhe has spent all of her life. She was graduated from Salem high school. Mr. Lef flngwell is the son of Mrs. O. R. Terwilllger, of -770 Chemeketa street, and is also a graduate of Salem high school. He is ed in the automobile department at the state house, where Mrs. Lefflngwell has been working, and both the bride and the groom are popular among Salem's younger set. The ladies of the O, A. R. were entertained with a silver tea at the home of Mrs. Al Crowder on Ash street Thursday afternoon. The rooms were beautifully decorated in snowballs and purple lilacs. A delightful social afternoon was enjoyed by those present, after which a dainty luncheon was served to forty guests by the hostesses, Mrs. Al Crowder, Mrs. Joe Marshall, Mrs. D. C. Miss Gertrude Aldrich and Claude Stevenson; address, H. C. Seymour, of O. A. C; violin en semble, by the pupils of Miss Elizabeth Levy; presentation of diplomas by H. H. Mumford. About five hundred people were present for this occasion. The affair was planned by Pro fessor A. N. Arnold, Miss Grace Hastings and Miss Margaret Peat tfe, and splendid work was done by them in the arrangement of the program and the events and in the decorating of the school house, the grounds and the com munity hall.
