Wallowa County Chieftain Happenings wallowa.com October 17, 2018 A7 Josephy Exhibit honors Wallowa County’s barns By Steve Tool Wallowa County Chieftain “Scenes from Wallowa Barn Tour Exhibit,” which is connected with the Wallowa County Chamber of Com- merce barn tour, opened Oct. 6 at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture. The center’s last barn tour exhibit was around two years ago. The exhibit is the result of this year’s barn tour brochure. Josephy executive direc- tor Cheryl Coughlan said that two previous barn tour books had included 12 and 15 barns, respectively. The books asso- ciated with previous tours sold out, so Coughlan, a board member of the chamber, sug- gested resurrecting the idea. Executive Director at Wal- lowa County Chamber of Commerce Vicki Searles agreed, and the two collected information and talked to land- owners about including their barns on the tour. Searles wrote Paul Wahl/Chieftain Ellen Bishop’s “Riverview Dairy Barn” is part of the Josephy exhibit. a grant to Travel Oregon to cre- ate a map of the barns and a video as well. Coughlan also applied for a grant to cover the center’s exhibit, although she hasn’t learned its fate. Coughlan also wants to create a barn tour phone app that would work as a self-guided tour while explain- ing the histories and back- ground of the various barns. Over the summer, the cen- ter and the chamber invited art- ists to tour the area’s barns and create a work for the exhibit, a compilation of photographs, paintings and drawings, which runs through Dec. 4. Around 20 regional artists are represented in the exhibit with 45-50 pieces on display. The California-based singer of all things western will ply his musical wares on the OK The- atre stage Oct. 17. OK Theatre owner Darrell Brann said he got wind of Sta- mey through Enterprise Police Department Chief Joel Fish. “He’d heard we had other acts like Riders in the Sky, and he asked me if I’d be willing to have Dave Stamey,” Brann said.
